The fact that Flags didn't get another nod make me think that was just the Globes being starfuckers. Just look at all the other people that got double noms, it's crazy.
Clint will get in for Iwo Jima, but I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see Flags anywhere on the ballot next month.

I'll be uber-pissed if Eastwood scores a double nomination.
A win might make my head explode.

Most prefer Letters over Flags, and with the preferential counting system for nominations, the No. 2 and No. 3 votes matter a lot less, so it'll be very hard for Flags to get nominated.

I just feel those two films are linked. I wrote my review for Letters and couldn't help mentioning Flags. I don't think I've seen a review or blurb yet that hasn't mentioned both.
True, but to get on the ballot you need at least a few #1s, and I don't see people putting Flags over Iwo Jima.

The DGA noms are going to be much more exciting than usual for me.
Yeah. The fate of Babel, UA93, FOOF and Dreamgirls all rest on it.
This season is fereaking NUTS.

If anything, I think two films hurts him. If he had made just one great Iwo Jima, and left Flags on the drawing board, he'd be in a better position.
The Globes double nod doesn't really mean much when you look at the whole picture; for one, the list of double nods the Globes made. If Scorcese wins at the Globes like I bet he will, it will make the double nod look even sillier. I would have even rather them nominated Condon or the LMS directors instead of two boring Eastwood noms. The fact that the nom for Eastwood was the ONLY support Flags got further shows how weak it was (not to mention the Iwo Jima direction nod for Eastwood is only backed up by a Best Picture nod too). Neither of his best director nods has much backing, which will hurt his chances. Actually, now that I look at it, Eastwood hasn't won any director awards at all for Iwo Jima or Flags; none of the critics groups have gone for him so far.
Peace,
Mike.

Save your shutups for when Shack and Levy gets here. They're gonna go NUTS for the Director/Screenplay snub.

Won't a double nom split his vote for the actual award voting? The ideal situation for Marty is two nominations for Clint and one for him.

That's a little different situation. Soderbergh was winning most of the critic awards for directing two good movies and considered the front runner until Lee beat him at the Globes (with the famous Julia Roberts' expression). Then the concern about vote-splitting started and got built up by the media. When Lee won at DGA, the whole vote-split debate was everywhere, and the academy, especially the actors branch, decided to throw their support behind one film to ensure Soderbergh a victory.

I think if he gets 2 BD noms, that'll split the vote and Marty will take the award...
But Letters will win BP in that situation.

In either circumstance
Chance of Scorsese winning - 70%
Chance of Clint winning - 20%
Chance of anyone else winning - 10%

If Clint wins I see DiCaprio and the entire cast of The Departed storming the stage in a rage of fury.
It would be total BS if Clint does win since he seemingly wins every year and it is really getting old. Maybe they should have held The Departed till next year because I don't think Clint has anything coming out
