 Best Art Direction Predictions
Well, along with Best Visual Effects this is usually one of the most interesting technical categories to me (and I think zennier likes that one as well ). So any thoughts on what will be in game for it this year?
My current guesses are:
Dreamgirls
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Superman Returns
The Good German
Pan's Labyrinth

It most certainly is!
Hmm, after seeing The Prestige, I wonder if it stands a chance? It was gorgeous.
I remember saying Superman ought to be good for a nomination... Pirates too. Judging from the trailer for Dreamgirls, it stands a great chance. As for Good German, I'm not sure if it warrants a nomination, but for some reason films like it always get a spot. And Pan's Labyrinth may or may not get in, depending on the reviews. If it is completely overlooked by critics, I doubt it will get a spot. Any attention at all, however, should secure a place for it.
My predictions for now:
Dreamgirls
Pirates
Superman
The Prestige
Pan's Labyrinth

Another one to keep in mind is obviously Zhang Yimou's Curse of the Golden Flower. Say what you will about his films, but they always look gorgeous.

The Prestige and The Illusionist are both on my shortlist as well. The Good German...well, I put it in because this is just the kind of a film that the Academy likes to give noms for art direction and cinematography to (see GNGL).

I'm still fairly certain that Marie Antoinette will get a nom here, and probably a win.

Yeah, I was going to say that, but I was afraid that someone would accuse me of being a fanboy...
Predicts:
- Dreamgirls
- Marie Antoinette
- The Good German
- Pirates of the Caribbean 2
- Pan's Labyrinth
it's between the first two, anyway...

Yeah when I saw Marie I was thinking it def. deserves a nom. From the Pan's Labyrinth trailer I don't see how that doesn't get a nom. either. And the critics do love it, at least the ones who have seen it. Pan currtently has 18 positive and 0 negative on the tomatometer, and those reviews say it is one of hte best movies of the year.
