 Academy Awards on YouTube
YouTube, filled with so many goodies, even has quite a few Oscar clips. Most arent anything particularly noteworthy, but here are three pretty good ones:
Here's the Federico Fellini lifetime achievement award from 1993. Unfortunately, there is a Spanish translation running over the english, so its pretty impossible to understand what Sophia Loren, Mastroianni and Fellini are saying. But the clip montage is unaltered, and seeing Giulietta Masina crying with joy mere months before both died is a great moment.

The three performances of the Beauty & The Beast song nominees. Pretty nice production numbers, if you ask me. Jerry Orbach appears to be having a grand time.

And finally, the crown jewel and the direct opposite of the last clip, the infamous Rob Lowe/Snow White duet that led off the '89 Oscars. I'd never seen it before; it' actually worse than you'd imagined. What the fuck were they thinking?

Speaking of youtube, I was surprised to see just how popular it's become compared to other movie sites.

I also found Janet Jackson's performance for Again, Lea Salonga and Brad Kane for A Whole New World, Madonna for You Must Love Me and also for Sooner or Later, Celine Dion's atrocious I Finally Found Someone, and Dolly Parton and James Ingram for that Beethoven song... LMAO. Will get the links...

There's lots of great Tony Award performances on there, too. I was just watching Patti LuPone tap her way through Anything Goes. Great stuff.

I love youtube. I found a couple nice Patti Labelle performances and am trying to "get" the JT mtv performance, but yeah so many good things to find when you least expect it.

I'll post this one for everybody, and I didn't pick it because I wanted to rub it in and say "I told you so" to everybody, it was just the first that I came across. Ladies and gentlemen...

Nice, Chris! Hey, I'm all for you starting your own thread if you're going to organize it like that. I don't think anybody would mind.

THIS IS INCREDIBLE.
My new favorite person in the world, youtube user tylerdurden1974, had been posting videos of all the major wins of the last 15 years or so, acceptance speeches and all. He doesn't have them all up yet, but he seems to be working on it. This is a gold mine if you, like me, didn't start taping the ceremonies until the new millennium. Doh!
Enjoy!

Now I wish some nice soul would post more Best Song performances (hideous or good... doesn't matter).

No longer dead to me!
I love seeing stuff like this!
I'm watching the clip of Anthony Hopkins winning for The Silence of the Lambs. Masterful performance.
Oh, and Tom Hanks for his deserved back-to-back wins for Philadelphia and Forrest Gump. Love it.

Oh, and now I understand partially why people thought Jack Palance read the wrong name when Marisa Tomei (who I really do think was an acceptable winner). Dude was out of it.

Quick! Somebody save all of those videos to their computer, because with the Oscars, they will no doubt be taken down.
And I agree with everyone else: these videos are a treasure. Great stuff. I'm still watching 'em now.
Peace,
Mike.

Robbed? That was a pretty awesome nomination slate, except for Paymer. And have you seen Hackman in Unforgiven? That was a career high in a great movie. Not that Jaye wasn't great in Crying Game, but if he was such a great actor, where is he now, 15 years on?

He had very little interest in pursuing a movie career, only other movie of note he was in was Stargate and even then it took a lot to talk him into doing it. Davidson was never an actor by profession hence his own personal decision not to carry it on afterwards.

The wins for Forrest Gump and its leading man are in the upper echelon of shameful Oscar nights. Just awful. What's next, that Sean Penn was simply robbed for I Am Sam?

Naughty list.
Are you gonna update the Oscar history thing you made before? The one where I'm the only reader?

Exactly... it took a huge check to get him to do Stargate. He never, ever wanted to have a place in Hollywood. It wasn't his thing. God knows if he is still in the fashion industry.
Nonetheless, it was awesome to see him. I was way too young to have remembered seeing him in the public eye at the time. I'm sort of glad he made a profound performance and disappeared. It makes him all the more enigmatic and memorable. I do wish they would do a retrospective or something. He's getting older.
