 Paul Giamatti... Again
Well.
Everyone who has seen 'Lady in the Water' has stated that Mr. Giamatti is the shining star of it.
Now. Can it earn him an Acting Nod? I say with weak competition he has a chance. And he is overdue.
How much will the poor reception of the film hurt his chances?
And one more thing...
If he did get nominated... could it be the first year ever to have someone starring in a Razzie Award winning movie... which LitW might be... win an acting nom at the Oscars for the same movie?

No chance in hell.
Lady could have Marlon Brando in his best performance ever, and it still wouldn't get a Best Actor nomination.

Lol, that was exactly what I had thought when I saw the title of this thread. Marlon Brando and all, heh.
Seriously, Marlon Brando has a better chance at being nominated for Superman Returns than Giamatti for this one.

And that is a shame, because as much as i hate this film, I loved Giamatti in it.

Giamatti has spent his career being the best part of many films, he's getting ignored for this film becuase noone is even watching it.
He should have won for Sideways, when the fucker didn't even nominate him...yes, I am still bitter about that.

I was shocked at that as well...and angered. He not only should have been nominated that year, but he should have won in a landslide.

Giamatti's snub for Sideways is among the most awful in Oscar history. I still fail to understand how he was not nominated.
The absolutely horrible reception to Lady in the Water prevents him from getting anywhere close to a nomination for it.

I also agree with this. His snub is one of the all time worst. I think of Val Kilmer in Tombstone being one of other jokes for not being nominated. I know he has no chance of being nominated for LITW, but his performance is truly wonderful. I hated the film but can recognize that he was wonderful in the film.

Bryce Dallas wasn't nominated for The Village, so I don't think Paul is getting one for Lady in the Water.

Giamatti was great in the film, but the film is self sucked in my opinion. No way.

It was a terrible snub. The academy voted in Eastwood, even though he didn't have any support across the board. I personally felt Eastwood's performance was very worthy and would have preferred somebody else not to get one, but yeah, Paul Giamatti should have gotten a nomination for Sideways, no two ways about it.

He might be able to get another supporting nod for Illusionist.
Though no win ofcourse. Supporting might actually be the most interesting competiton this year.
I'd say it'll be between Murphy, Nicholson, and Bale ( Bale's role is suppose to be as close to lead as possible, but im thinking they'll campaign for supporting, since i'd say theres a better chance of getting a nod with supporting and he's suppose to be VERY good in it )

It usually is the most interesting. Perhaps because the bigger awards are so political and lobbied for. The supporting ones tend to actually be for good work, not sure how that was allowed to happen.

Now I never even thought Giamatti would have a shot at a nomination for Lady, but that's a good point. Howard at least had some critical support, whereas I think I've only heard one reviewer hail Giamatti's performance here (and the rest deride the film and everything about it).
Giamatti's performance, though, is still the best one I've seen from a male this year.
And oddly enough, Bryce Dallas Howard gave what I think is the best performance by a female that I've seen this year. Not for Lady in the Water, though. (For Manderlay.)
