 WOKJ Bi-Weekly "BP Nominees"-Moviewatching Club
You know, reading through my "What Best Picture Nominees since 1985 have you seen" thread, it becomes clear that many of us (myself included) haven't seen many older Best Picture nominees. Now I am not saying that the Academy is the one holy institution to go by when watching for movie suggestions, but generally, their picks are pretty good and are worth checking it, even if just to find out "what all the fuss was about".
We have tried it with the WOKJ Book Club already and organized several Foreign/Indie Movie Nights, where a book/movie were selected and read/seen for the event. Considering that most of us haven't seen the older BP nominees, I thought it'd be a good idea to intrigue someone for this kind of a club as well.
How would this work?
Someone suggests a former Best Picture nominee (doesn't need to be between 1985 and now, can be older too, as long as it is possible to be found) that most other members (or all ideally) haven't seen. If the majority of the rest agrees, we have about two weeks (or a month) to see the film. My idea was to make it a monthly thing or a bi-weekly one. Probably the former would be the best, so no one is under pressure. When the movie is seen, people discuss it during that time in this thread and move on then.
I just thought that for movie fans like us, it could be an interesting way of discovering older acclaimed films. Hopefully someone else is interested.

Here is a suggestion for the first entry - a doubleheader - ***** The Godfather 1 and 2 or just Godfather 1. ***** And considering that any true movie buff should have seen these already, people could just review them.

Once the club is fuller, the nominees will be discussed. Also, it is about nominees that "most haven't seen", not those that most "have seen".

but I think you are going to have a hard time getting a majority of members agreeing that they have not seen one of a year's 5 Best Picture nominees.
and since on this board, I have never seen the Godfather discussed fully, hope the members change their mind and go for both quality seen movies as well as obsure unseen movies.

off to work as that is just my point of view.

I disagree, but that is certainly a point to discuss.

I see Christian's post. And I like and agree with it. Yet I raise him a Hannah and Her Sisters.

Hehe, you should not be suggesting films that you have seen, but rather those you have not, but would like to.

It's true, he hasn't. He still thinks Sally Bowles is a tupperware company.

Well, I'd say once we get 12 members or so, we can start planning.

Thanks for joining, guys!
I am sure there will be more members to come, but we can start the first question which would be:
Should we do this on a bi-weekly or a monthly basis? Both is fine with me, but I know there are maybe some busier people here and I don't want this thing not to work because of time problems.
What do you think?

I vote bi-weekly. Most of the people around here watch a LOT of movies, so I don't think one in a 2-week span is that unreasonable, but I'm not sure that everyone will agree with me.
