Post What did you think of Jon Stewart?
What did you all think of Jon Stewart's hosting performance?

Where would you rank him among recent hosts - Billy Crystal, David Letterman, Steve Martin, Chris Rock and Whoopi Goldberg?

I love the Daily Show, but I was disappointed. His material was weak IMO, and he seemed to lack a bit of his confidence.

He was superb at coming up with GOOD on the spot comments. The opening clips were awesome. And Jon actually worked with everything. He worked with people's comments and winners and things that actually happened during the show to form jokes and witty comments, and therefore I felt like he kept momentum during the show, and not falling apart after the first prepared monologue like most hosts.

PEACE, Mike.

He seemed very uncomfortable - he won't be invited back.

(...and I'm a fan of the Daily Show)

He wasn't horrible, he just wasn't memorable. I doubt he'll be back.

He was adequate. I personally liked Letterman the best. He had no problem making fun of everyone.

Decent despite looking very bored with everything. Hollywood must not be his thing.

I guess I am alone in thinking he was very, very funny.

I agree, though, It doesn´t seem like he will be invited again to host.

But even that joke was incredibly safe and predictable. Why not go a bit further, I mean there were gangsters with gold teeth on stage winning an Oscar. Why not poke fun at how incredibly insane that is? Even funnier, in the year of Crash.

I thought he walked really well the fine line between harsh and safe.

the audience didn´t seem to agree, though. Most of them didn´t look amused.

I agree. I love Stewart, but the performance wasn't memorable. The only memorable parts were the fake ads for Best Actress and Sound Editing (I think?).

The poor guy had a tough time. He is clearly a political person, but he recognises that dragging that into an awards show can be a very bad thing, I think he was trying to distance himself from that too much and at the same time had the unfortunate omen of being in one of the most politically as socially rousing shows [in terms of nominees] as of late.

Its a thing where you have to be very careful in what you say or your career is over.

He was better than Rock, Crystal and Whoopi Goldberg. I never saw the david letterman one. Steve Martin is still the best host in recent years, though.

They were funny for the first half dozen times, but there's nothing like repeating a joke till it's dead...

People always comaplin the Oscar host is weak. I didn't last night shows, but those expecting Stewart as he is on teh Daily Show, well this is the Oscar's, not the Daily Show at the Oscars. Last year, yes Chrsi ROck was nto nearly as funny as he is in his comedy specials, well he's at the Oscars. Unless the Oscar host as a style right line with the show, chances are you'll see amore subdued or stripped down version of them because of the type of show it is. In that sense, the OScar host is always goign to be sort of anti-climatic.

Whoopi Goldberg sucks, I am nto a fan of Crystal, Rock was decent but of the recent hosts I have seen I thought Martin worked the best, he didn't due things like Bryastal's annoying bits that jsut drag the show on and on.

I have heard very godo things about Stewart.

I thought the opening skit with the previous hosts was great and his monologue was alright, but nothing special.

His bits throughout the show, on the other hand, were brilliant. In that regard, he's the best host they've had in years.

I liked Jon Stewart. Scorsece joke, the reaction to Pimp winning, the jeans, and just minor tidbits along the way were gold. Better than a lot of recent hosts.

Next year should be Conan, Vaughn, Sandler, or Ellen.

I thought he did well. Could've been better though.

I'm still ROFL with "Keira Knightley, sprinkled with GOD DUST... Acting While Beautiful!"
