I've seen enough of Junebug to know that Amy Adams should get the award. I certainly wouldn't mind if Witherspoon got the Oscar, and I think she will. As for the best actor, I'm not really inclined towards anyone; if it's Hoffman, so be it. Supporting Actor will probably go to Clooney.

Last night I had a dream.

In this dream Jesus appeared to me, with a bunch of other people. They were souless nightmares, forlorn and cast out by their creator. Jesus started pulling bones straight out of bodies from these abandoned husks as their flesh fell to the ground. Jesus took leg bones, bloody and cragged and beat me over the head with them, laughing and screaming "YOU HAVE BEEN FORSAKEN" all the while.

I then woke up.

I can only take this to mean that Crash will win this evening.

I'm waiting for someone to perform an urgent soliloquy and drink a fine glass of posion in preparation for tonight's potential Crash upset.

Oh, the (over)melodrama.

I saw Walk the Line last night...Witherspoon really does deserve it. It was just such a great performance.

I know, and Phoenix is good, but I find the performance isn't GREAT unless Reese is in the scene too. Every scene she was in improved the movie.

In all seriousness, the mounds of Oscar history says Brokeback still has about 95% chance of winning.

It's pretty much like Keira Knightley in P&P; when she's on, the film comes to life; when's she's not, it drags. Both films are, while nicely crafted, rather mundane. It's those two performances that give them the extra zest.

If BBM doesn't win, it would be the biggest upset in recent memory, overshadowing Shakespeare in Love and Saving Private Ryan.

I agree Box. I wouldn't be upset with Knightly or Witherspoon winning. I would only really be pissed with Theron winning, and probably Dench, although I haven't seen Henderson Presents.

Dench and Theron will definitely not win. For one thing, no one has seen Mrs Henderson. And another, if Huffman gets the award, it will not be for her peformance, given that almost no one has seen it. It will be because of the buzz, her cute behaviour at the awards, and the general assumption that women who play gender-bending roles automatically give Oscar-worthy performances. I'm sure Huffman is great in Transamerica, but I doubt all voters would care to watch the film. Theron's nomination is part of the residue of her first win; once they win, they tend to stick around. This is most evident in the tendency of former winners to return and present the awards the next year. As for Knightley, I think there's still a kind of 'does she deserve more than a nomination right now?' mentality that can't hold up to 'Geeze, Reese has already had a long and fruitful career- it's time'. I think Knightley should start thinking ahead to the next time she pulls off an Oscar-worthy performance, because she will have established herself more by then.


So, I think Witherspoon will win the award. Anyone else would be the biggest upset of the night.

I think, I hope, voters will feel Huffman is a more deserving choice than Witherspoon. Having seen both performances, Huffman is no doubt better. But better doesnt always win.

I still think that of the big 6 Supporting Actor will be the one that could surprise. Think the others are solid, unfortunately.

I'm getting a Julia Roberts winning feel for Reese. Even though Julia is vastly overrated in my opinion, they are both just so loved by Hollywood. Also its great to see both Reese and her husband have a reason to be there (him for Crash). He's in a best picture film, she isn't, but she's nominated for an Oscar, he isn't. So at least its been a big year for the both of them.

Do you think there is any way in which the audience could have a hostile reaction to a win, anywhere? The 'controversial' candidates are controversial in a pro-liberal way, so there's not likely going to be any booing for BBM or Crash (well, loyal, Ripper, etc. but yknow). I almost wish there was a Michael Moore

for all the talk of how daring these films are, they're all fairly safe and user friendly. Alas, no booing.

I'm OD'ing on Oscar winning films today. Driving Miss Daisy, Unforgiven, Annie Hall, Dances With Wolves.

not so. I love Unforgiven and Annie Hall. Driving Miss Daisy is charming and well, Kevin Coster's Dances With Wolves is what it is.

BBM isn't a bad film, it just isnt a great one. But its better than Crash.
