How are the Nominations different from the expectations ....
How are the Oscar Nominations different from the expectations from the past Award winners this season.
For example, I heard so much about how the SAG / PGA / DGA were going to be indictators on the Oscar Nominations.
How good were those theories and any thoughts on the same / surprise nominations at the Oscar Nomination that you were expecting?
******************************************
Like no Walk the Line and including Munich and especially how this is the first group that included KEIRA KNIGHTLEY.

Golden Globes matched the Oscars on only 2 picks this year. Not even a musical nom.
The story of the morning is Walk the Line not being nominated.

Major shocks:
- BBM not getting an Editing nomination
- Walk the Line not getting Picture
- Keira Knightley
- William Hurt instead of Maria Bello
- Perfect match between DGA, Director and Picture - how boring...
- Memoirs very strong in the tech department, beating Kong
- Batman Begins and The New World getting something
- BBM not getting an Editing nom
Munich didn't surprise me that much, actually..

So BBM not getting an editing nom shocked you twice?
Good list. Don't have much to add except that good strength shown from Munich, getting all the major noms.

maybe ??? Supporting actress was alittle more tighter than actor
and I just realized they gave it to the dying actress ( in the movie )

Strathairn and Knightley are not shocks. Most of us expected Strathairn to be nominated since mid-year, and Knightley was pretty much a lock back in November.

Even though the supporting actor catagory wasnt so hot this year and if Hurt didnt get nominated Howard or someone from Crash was gonna get a nod instead I dont really think he's that deserving of a nod. I mean he's basically in one scene, he did a great job in that one scene, but again it's ONE scene.

Howl's Moving Castle getting in is a major surprise for me, in a good way.

Yeah, but (no offense to you) Corpse Bride getting a nomination is disappointing all the same, even though it was going to happen.

It's gotta be better than the alternatives, though. (ChickLit or Madcar)

just a question on Knightley > anyone have ideas on breakdown of the voters that gave her a nomination here when being excluded from everywhere else in other major awards or I missed her name.
AND A BIG LAUGH TO HER NOT GETTING A BAFTA NOMINATION.

There is no official voter count.
The Academy doesn't release voter stats.

Yep. That was intentional

And the non-inclusion of the bigger hits in the animated category, of course.. (in a good way, like Michael said)

Nominations that I, among others, predicted, but am nonetheless disappointed to see materialize:
Charlize Theron
Frances McDormand
Paul Haggis

as I didn't follow all of the late award shows....
what happened to Match Point, I know it got Screenplay, but when did that fall off the list as lots were at least talking/debating Picture/Director/Supporting Actress.
