Post What will Cinderella Man end up with?
I mean nominations-wise. I just find it interesting how in almost any other year with a better release date, Cinderella Man would have been at least as much of a contender as is Walk the Line at this point. Certainly, its box-office was slightly disappointing for the genre ands the movie, but in itself, $60+ million is not bad at all and with a November/December release date, I am sure its legs would have been much steadier and it would have ended up with $80+ million.

Now, as it seems, the movie will be almost overlooked altogether. I am sure, if it had been released in December, it'd have been much different. It has at least as much critical acclaim as does Walk the Line. Both stand at 83% at RT, but Cinderella Man's average rating is 7.6/10, while WTL's is 7.4/10. Moreover, Cinderella Man's COTC score of 80% is bettere than WTL's score of 74%. To top that, A Beautiful Mind had an RT score of 78%, while Seabiscuit's was 79%. Both ended up with many noms and ABM actually with Best Picture and Best Director wins. Now, at Metascore, Cinderella Man is only insignificantly lower than WTL and ABM. The both latter stand at 72/100 there, while Cinderella Man ended up with 69/100. At IMDB, WTL, Brokeback Mountain, Cinderella Man and Good Night, and Good Luckk all stand at 8.0/10.

Having said that, I see little chances for Cinderella Man to get any major nominations at the Oscars other than one for Giamatti and maybe one for Original screenplay. So far, Giamatti and the movie's screenplay are the mostly the only things that got any nods anywhere. Furthermore, Russell Crowe could grab a Golden Globe nod as well as a SAG nomination. Right now, I think, he is fighting with Terrence Howard for the 5th slot at the Oscars.

So, do you think the movie will end up with anything other than a screenplay and a Best Supporting Actor nod at the Oscars? Seems rather unlikely to me. If it was a December release, I am sure it would have ended up with 4-5 noms at least.

It should be considered for Art Direction.
