Sin City didn't make it.
From these, I'd guess:
King Kong
War of the Worlds
Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith

Same.
(Though Batman Begins could really spoil - in my dreams. )

Charlie and The Chocolate factory??? Fantastic Four and Sin City seem to be more effects movies than that. Batman Begin's effects was it's weakness because it was so pedestrian. Oh well, it's not like any of those had the chance to win anyway.

I, for one, am very glad that Fantastic Four is not among the semifinalists!
King Kong and Star Wars: ROTS are locks. The third spot is open.
I am thinking Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, since after the amazing effects of Minority Report not having been nominated, I am not sure that every Spielberg flick is a lock for an effects nom.
I surely hope it's not Narnia.
So I go with Potter, Kong and ROTS.
The win is going to be between Kong and ROTS. King Kong is more deserving, but ROTS is the last movie in a series that defined special effects over years. I think it will win, instead of the Oscar going to WETA once again.
In my personal opinion I rank the them from those that deserve it the most to those that deserve it the least:
1. King Kong
2. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
3. Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
4. War of the Worlds
5. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
6. Batman Begins
7. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe

I hope so. That's a quality line-up.

By the way, interesting that Kingdom of Heaven is not on there.

1. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
2. King Kong
3. Star Wars: Episode III
I don't see why Batman is on the list.

Whatever the finalists, Kong deserves to win and will win. The effects for Kong himself are amazing.

Just saw Kong again and it'd be a freaking SHAME if it loses out to any other movie.

BJ thinks
Potter 4
Stih
and Kong
Narnia would be my 4th choice, fallowed by war of the worlds, that film had some out of this world CGI.

I must be in the minority, but I'm not impressed. King Kong doesn't deserve to win because they spent all the money on King Kong himself and they neglected the rest of the movie. I'm really disappointed.

Dunno what you're talking about. Must have seen another movie. The rest was just fine, excellent in fact (save a few glitches which happens in every effects heavy movie)...

I'm pretty much 100% sure that two of the nominees will be King Kong and Revenge of the Sith. The third is up in the air. If it were my decision, I'd put War of the Worlds there, because regardless of what you think of the movie, it's special effects are absolutely amazing, pretty much flawless in my opinion.
PEACE, Mike.

Visual Effects <> computer generated effects. Thats why Begins is probably there. It was a return to traditional effects.
In any case, don't think it should be nominated. The problem is that some people loved the way the effects were handled while it fell flat for others completely.

Kong's probably more likely, but I'm going to root for Sith. It's rare that the SFX voters do that lifetime-achievement award thing, but face it, Lucas deserves it.

The opening sequence alone deserves it
