Muren, Miyazaki score at Hollywood Film Awards

The Hollywood Film Festival’s board of advisors has unveiled a roster of film recipients for the upcoming 9th annual Hollywood Film Awards, which is set to take place in Beverly Hills in October.

Warner Bros’ Batman Begins will receive the Hollywood Sound of the Year Award, Disney’s Howl's Moving Castle earns the Hollywood Animation of the Year Award, Dimension's Sin City will receive the Hollywood Make-Up of the Year Award, and Paramount's War Of The Worlds will get the Hollywood Visual Effects of the Year Award.

Batman Begins’ supervising sound editor is David G Evans, whose credits include Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life, and Die Another Day, among others.

Howl's Moving Castle was directed by the Japanese animation wizard Hayao Miyazaki, who previously made Spirited Away. Both films achieved phenomenal box office success in Japan.

Gregory Nicotero served as the special make-up supervisor on Sin City and previously worked on Ray and the Kill Bill franchise.

Dennis Muren was the senior visual effects supervisor on War Of The Worlds. His credits include Jurassic Park, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, E.T., and The Empire Strikes Back.

"Every year we are very proud to honour excellence in the art of filmmaking in all its disciplines, and this year's honourees are outstanding examples of that excellence," festival founder and executive director Carlos De Abreu said.

As previously announced, Pawel Edelman will receive the Hollywood Cinematographer of the Year Award, Walter Murch will be honoured with the Hollywood Editor of the Year Award, Colleen Atwood is named Hollywood Costume Designer of the Year Award, Grant Major is Hollywood Production Designer of the Year Award, and Avy Kaufman is Hollywood Casting Director of the Year Award.

The 2005 Annual Hollywood Film Festival runs from Oct18-24, and the Hollywood Film Awards Gala Ceremony takes place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Oct 24.

Screen International is sponsoring the Hollywood World Award, which will be presented on the night and honours the best international film of the year, from a shortlist hand-picked by Screen’s blue-ribbon international jury.
