FYI, the Academy screening of Inception was not a raving success and had walk-outs. So everyone thinking the film is a shoo-in for best pic, regardless of the 10, regardless of TDK, regardless of the money, would do well to consider the finer details, as in: it just didn’t play that well to the audience we’re concerned with here.
Just like the general public had a split between younger and older audiences, I don't think Inception will play well with the Academy since it skews much older than Inception's strongest demographic. I won't be a bit surprised if it doesn't get nominated for Best Picture. And if it's not nominated in that category with 10 slots, you can forget about Director or Screenplay.

I will be surprised if Inception gets any major nods.

Yeah, it's in, but won't win anything major.

Inception sure seems to be popular with the kids (ie: the under 30 set), but fortunately the Academy is made up of a more mature thoughtful group. Once the fad wears thin, and the backlash starts to set in, Inception will be nowhere in sight come nomination time.
(Plus, there's no way in hell that horrendous score is nominated.)
This video gave me a newfound appreciation for Inception's score. I wouldn't count it out.
OMG, so that's a rip-off too? Does Nolan have no shame?

Hmm,I think Best Director is the shakiest nom right now, but either way it is looking at at least eight.

Re: Inception Oscars Thread
Right now, it's looking good for ten noms.
Best Picture Best Director Best Original Screenplay Best Score Best Visual Effects Best Editing Best Sound Editing Best Sound Mixing Best Art Direction Best Cinematography
Don't see much happening here either way.
Should probably win two or three techs.

I think Nolan has a fine shot at a nomination, especially because the Coens and Boyle were recently awarded Oscars.

Hmmm, I am wondering....could Inception in a best-case scenario walk away with most Oscars this year? I think it is possible...
Best Sound Mixing Best Sound Editing Best Visual Effects Best Cinematography Best Score
Even Best Original Screenplay is, indeed, a possibility. So that's 5-6 wins right there.

I don't see how a movie that balances 5 parallel realities at once comprehensively doesn't win the Best Editing oscar. This should really be the best picture winner.

No, it should not.

I think Cinematography goes to True Grit this year. Editing is a tossup between this and TSN. However, I do see it winning Visual Effects, Art Direction, Score and both Sound awards. That's five.

Yeah, Inception makes everything easy to understand with adapt editing, but never once did I feel like the editing added something more to the movie than just focus and clear idea of how dreams within dreams work.
That being said and being noted that I haven't seen most of the biggies yet, TSN had more impressive editing than Inception IMHO, just not as flashy. Editing is what makes TSN a great movie, because it made a movie where everybody just talks into a suspenseful, thriller-like story about everything social skills are about. Though it is kinda ironic how the best edited sequence for me (the rowing race) was the one that could've been cut easily. I guess that's why it hasn't been cut.

This was clearly an Awards contender. The Dark Knight gave Inception a "due" element that will pay off in making it the year's "mainstream blockbuster" nominee.

does not matter, those bastards will never be forgiven.

I'm becoming more and more convinced that it will also win Screenplay. Nolan is very overdue by now.

Right....so District 9 with prawn-like aliens and exploding humans could get noms for Screenplay and Picture, but this can't? Heh

D9 had two big Academy A's: Allegory & Africa.
(The natural analog for D9 this year would be Monsters with which it shares intelligence, not the puerile Inception.)
