I actually caught Babel before the Oscars, on Saturday and it was the worst BP nominee I saw this year, but not bad. It was worse than the director's two previous efforts (21 Grams and Amores Perros), so it's a shame that of all these films, Babel was nominated. However, it was still quite decent and with better editing, some tweaking of the storylines and fleshing out some parts, while shortening the others it could have been great. The Japanese storyline was very good, IMO. t was the Mexical part that ruined it mostly for me.
Well, it wasn't. It didn't deserve almost all of its noms (except for a Best Sup. Actress nom) and I am very glad Brad Pitt wasn't up for Best Sup. Actor as his role simply consisted of crying and screaming..and crying some more.
But, yeah, I've seen worse.
As for The Departed, it was the best BP winner since ROTK.
