I remember how at the beginning of the season I was adamant that Babel would not be picking up a BP nomination.
Teeeee again.

Her over-the-top earnestness and her wacky facial expressions when she over-sings her songs, as she always did on Idol and I believe she probably does in Dreamgirls.

I'm so glad CHILDREN OF MEN wasn't nominated. This would of been a total joke.

Oh fuck this shit.
I feel so ashamed for being one of the earliest people to bring up Babel having a chance at winning BP. Normally I would be happy for being at least half-right at its surge, but seriously the academy, no. Think about what you're doing here. I can understand Crash. But please, please, do not award fucking Babel.
At this point I'm afraid Departed could be 3rd place, though it's still close obviously. If I had to guess right now though my money would be on Dreamgirls or Babel getting picture and Scorsese still managing to take BD. I hate this.

Amazing how British dominated this show! YAY for Clint, Emily, Meryl, Forest, Helen, Sasha, Hugh, Grey, Desplat, Cars. It was an excellent award until the last minute. I'm not against Babel, but it makes no sense to me. If hasn't got the best actor, actress, supporting act, director, screenplay, score, then how could it win. Just don't let it come away without an award? BP+screenplay or BP+score would've been fine, but only BP is weird for me. It's Babel vs Dreamgirls now, while Marty is unstoppable. But I hope there's a chance for U93 and Letters, the Academy just have to watch these movies and then they can not ignore them. I'd love to see Babel, Departed, Dreamgirls, Queen, U93 for BP and Babel, Departed, Dreamgirls, Queen, Letters for BD. Sorry LMS.

I still don't consider Babel a frontrunner or even a co-frontrunner. It feels like The Hours all over again. This just pushes Dreamgirls to the pole position. Babel won't win PGA, which will go most likely Dreamgirls, then The Departed with Little Miss Sunshine lurking. DGA will go with Scorsese for sure, so it really needs to win WGA and SAG Ensemble before I take it seriously.
That being said, I think Golden Globes did just enough to make all five films still alive for Best Picture right now. Yes, even though LMS took a major blow here, the love expressed from the guilds still has to be considered, and The Queen becomes a dark horse again. Going to be an exciting month.

Pretty boring all around show. Whitaker was awsome, just pure real emotion.

What a waste of 3 hours!
I know Whitaker was gonna win but I really though there still might be a chance Leo would take it.
And then... Babel. wtf? I CANNOT believe Babel won. I'm just in awe. Funny thing is, I predicted it to win but only because everyone was predicting The Departed.
Dreamgirls predictably won its 3 awards. How boring.
Ugh. I'm just in such a fowl mood.

I agree that the three little letters that descirbe this night are WTF! I mean really, Babel..... Departed has it all...... I am a Dreamgirls fan more and more everyday listening and remembering the performances, but Departed was the movie of the year. This scares me to think that Babel and Departed will split the votes, leaving Dreamgirls wide open for the win. Like i said it was a great movie, flawed at points, but Departed was perfect and deserves every win it is nominated for. And if the academy doesn't at least give it director, oooooooooh, don't want to even start....... Anyways, what a shitty way to end a great evening! Can't wait to see how this all ends up on the big night. Later guys!

Just remember, GG's are a bunch of foreign press people who really have no clout in Hollywood. Hollywood votes for it's own. It's a good old boys club. I don't think this is a precurs or to what is about to come. Babel will not win best picture......please.

The Globes exist to predict the Academy's own choices. The Departed didn't win Best Pic because their voters were hearing the same thing as others, i.e., that amongst AMPAS members The Departed was not the frontrunner or even their second or third choice to win Best Picture.

It was kind of odd seeing Michael Buble suck face with Emily Blunt.

It was kinda obvious that they would choose Babel. Cause think about it.
Babel = 7 foreign countries.
Golden Globes = foreign press
which means
foreigners = foreigners.
Get where this is going. Whereas, the Oscars.
Oscars = american
american = foreigners (oops).
Well, you get the picture.

Yeah I found out I've been living under a rock as well.
I read this morning they've been dating for almost two years now and they share a house whenever they're both in Vancouver.

I don't hate you guys. Though I'd prefer The Departed to win - of those nominated Babel winning is good by me. I would have preferred a Best Supporting Actress win for Kikuchi that the best pic win (Departed getting it) but really I liked Babel. I dont understand the hate around here for it. It has alot of fans among critics as well as amongst actors and directors in Hollywood. Best pic of the year - IMO no, but deserving of all the hate - NO!
