People are never satisfied. They complain regarding this type of elegant and nostalgic diversion, but would also hate and be bored by a merciless ceremony burning directly through every category without much fanfare or glitzy absurdity, claiming it needs more magic.

On one hand, I understand your bullshit calling statement, on the other hand, sometimes the power of a film exists outside of the filmmakers intentions as a film is only what it is perceived by its subjective audience. A great example of this for me is Inglorious Basterds which is one of the best satires on war propaganda ever made. Was that the intention of Tarantino? Hard to say. But his film worked so well on a meta level, and I say the same thing about Wolf. Now of course should someone be rewarded for unintended consequences? Probably not, so yes I understand the lack of an editing nomination.
