Not really checked out the specifics yet.

Best Foreign Language Film is a complete joke. I didn't see any of them. :(

Really pleased Hans Zimmer is in for Best Original Score. He's got to win.

I'm also really pleased that Interstellar gets in for its sound categories and visual effects.

Out of those Best Picture nods, I hope Whiplash gets it, which I know is very unlikely. If it's not Boyhood, then I hope it's American Sniper.

I can't see anything other than a Boyhood 1-2.

It is a disgrace that The Lego Movie didn't win, let alone get nominated. Go Big Hero 6!

It is also a disgrace that Interstellar got nominations for both sound categories, but Into the Woods missed both.

It is also a disgrace that Gone Girl missed Picture and Screenplay. At least The Imitation Game will definitely win an award now.

The sound in Interstellar was one of people's main complaints.

The sound was the best part of Interstellar. Maybe your teenage girly friends didn't like it, but one would hope the Academy knows more than them when it comes to motion picture sound quality.

Ida is on Netflix. Not sure about the others.
I agree about Zimmer and your Interstellar thoughts.
I agree about Whiplash too or the likely Boyhood winning.

Yeah, the sound in Interstellar was the emotional punch of the movie. Not only does it deserve the nominations, it deserves to win.

I'm glad we agree on this.

Yeah, Foxcatcher is definitely No. 9 on BP list. No. 10 is really hard to say. Definitely not Gone Gilr. Wild got Dern in, but missed on screenplay. Nightcrawler missed on acting. Could even be Interstellar, which did manage to get 5 noms after all.

LOL Academy. For once I'm not mad though, just curious as to how all this goes down. Foxcatcher and Selma seemed to switch places, with Selma literally representing tokenism in the best picture category. MLK would be so proud!

Birdman had no editing, that's why it didn't get nominated.

Interstellar's sound blew. Maybe it was just my theater, but I could barely hear some of the conversations because the whole fuckin place was shaking. BOOM BOOM BOOM Gravity time lapses BOOM BOOM BOOM.

I knew Elswit would get screwed by Deaks, but didn't expect it to be knocked out by some rando foreign movie. I'll have to check it out before being properly upset.

I agree with Flava'd. Interstellar sound mixing was awful. BOOM BOOM BOOM shut the fuck up.

Of the 8, I've only seen 1) Boyhood 2) Grand Budapest Hotel 3) Theory of Everything

Birdman and Imitation Game come out next month.

I don't know if American Sniper, Selma or Whiplash will come out here. Probably not. Wait, Foxcatcher is it? Won't come out either.

Also, did they have to say Birdman's stupid subtitle every time it was nominated?

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm happy Inherent Vice wasn't completely shut out!

Also since Grand Budapest didn't get actor, American Sniper didn't get director, and Birdman didn't get editing, there is really no angle for the dynamics of the race to change. Boyhood certainly has this thing locked, and the only big categories with suspense are Actor and Adapted Screenplay. I'll be interested to see who wins editing too.

We'll know early if Birdman is going to win BP by if Emma Stone wins. Not that it can't win without her, but if she does pull the upset, Birdman almost definitely will.

Pissed that if Actor was going to include a few glaring omissions that Bill Murray didn't have more steam for a nod. But his chances were non-existent sadly.

Other than that, fun as always.

Kind of crazy and deserved (though I haven't seen AS) that, in three years, Bradley Cooper has become a three-time Oscar nominee. Never saw that coming in a million years when he started on Alias.

Well, theoretically The Imitation Game still has what it needs to win now. British support, Director nom, Editing nom, big box-office, Harvey Weinstein...

I mean... he's pretty damn good. But yes, he has picked the perfect roles and had great timing. And the luck of having a studio that pushes his movies hard at awards time.

Gag at the Inherent Vice screenplay nomination.

So happy for Emma!

idk cooper is a nice dude and a good actor but not sure if he's THAT great to be given the title of "three time Academy Award nominee". Most of the fact is that he's picked very good award season roles to get nominated in.

You know the last person to get three noms in a row? Renee Zellweger. I suppose that should put your worries to rest and make Cooper look better.
