THR's The Iron Lady review: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/review ... her-265470. Yeah, Streep is winning.

 Re: Best Actress 2011
I'm still not convinced Streep will win. I believe Davis and Williams are still formidable competition, particularly Davis.
Glenn Close seems out in terms of the win because her movie is just SO small. It's not even going to have a non-qualifying-run release until late January.
I wish Dunst could score a nomination... She deserves one so, so much. Felicity Jones also deserves to be in the conversation.

 Re: Best Actress 2011
If Michelle Williams doesn't win Best Actress this year, it will be so disappointing. Her performance in Marilyn was just spectacular. One of the best performances I've seen in years.

Will My Week With Marilyn be in the Musical/Comedy category at the Golden Globes? If so I'm sure Michelle will win Best Actress there.

 Re: Best Actress 2011
It would be major category fraud. The movie has three or four laughs. It's a definite drama. Similar vibe to The King's Speech.

Well, she does sing in it, and it does look really light and frothy. Was Walk The Line in the Musical/Comedy category?

 Re: Best Actress 2011
Carey Mulligan sings in Shame. Must be a musical or comedy.
Walk the Line was in the musical category. Which is dumb. But it's another matter--it was at least about singers and musicians. My Week with Marilyn is a drama about an actress. It has two, maybe two and a half minutes of singing.

I'm not saying it belongs in that category, I can just see it ending up there.

 Re: Best Actress 2011
I guess I don't mind too much. Michelle Williams is great in it. She's great in general. So I don't mind her winning a Globe, even if it's in an otherwise mediocre movie. And I'm sure she would win if nominated in the Musical or Comedy category, especially since the Hollywood Foreign Press denied Disney's bid to submit The Help as a comedy.
I guess Charlize Theron is still strong competition, though.

 Re: Best Actress 2011
Does anyone think it's possible Glenn Close could miss out on a nom for Albert Nobbs? There's really not much buzz and she has been shut out quite a bit this past week.

I think Rooney Mara is going to get in now, and I tentatively have Theron ahead as well. So my current predictions: Viola Davis Rooney Mara Meryl Streep Charlize Theron Michelle Williams It seems like probably the most formidable Best Actress lineup in years, honestly.

Theron is alright, but Young Adult sucks... It is such a useless and morally void film. I highly doubt she gets in.

 Re: Best Actress 2011
But you haven't seen the performances from Michelle Williams, Meryl Streep, or Rooney Mara yet . Or did you see My Week With Marilyn? Either way you should wait until you've seen the others. You might change your mind.

Nothing against Viola Davis, obviously. I loved her performance and I loved the movie, but Michelle Williams is in a completely different league.

 Re: Best Actress 2011
So after SAG, these four look pretty much locked:
Viola Davis Meryl Streep Tilda Swinton Michelle Williams
The last one is between Close, Mara, and Theron, and I'll go with Close.

 Re: Best Actress 2011
I'm not sure Swinton is -locked-. VERY strong, yes, but not locked in the way Davis, Williams, and Streep are locked.
I still believe Mara can get in. Dragon Tattoo has had a tough go of it thus far because Rudin has kept it so strictly under wraps. But it'll come out next week and catch fire.

Yeah, I don't think Swinton is locked either. Great shot, yes, but not locked.

 Re: Best Actress 2011
I see it as Swinton vs. Mara for the final spot. A lot of Oscar-watching Internet types won't admit it because they are gay-camp hens and Tilda is a goddess to them, but still. Glenn Close is in, in my opinion. As in as Viola Davis and Michelle Williams. Albert Nobbs isn't a critical favorite, so it struggled early on, but now both SAG and the Globes have gone for not only her, but also Janet McTeer. Signed, sealed, delivered. Theron won't quite get there playing a supposedly super-cynical, icy role in a dark comedy, but she's in a solid seventh. And Olsen's chances are dead, dead, dead.

 Re: Best Actress 2011
Glenn Close has been completely revived by the SAG and Globes nods, I think.
I think the safest bet for a lineup right now is: Close Davis Streep Swinton Williams

Oscilloscope, the tiny distributor started by Beastie Boys' MCA, must be creaming themselves over We Need to Talk About Kevin. Could easily become their biggest movie ever (by far) if Swinton is nominated. http://boxofficemojo.com/studio/chart/? ... ctures.htm

It's going to be a travesty if Rooney Mara doesn't get in for Dragon Tattoo. She was incredible.
