as much as this sucks, Wall-E's not losing the Oscar. It wouldn't make sense for them to give it such a high honor like an Original Screenplay nod and then not vote for it as Animated Feature -- I think the voters will recognize what deserves the win.

Wall-E could lose Best Animated Film while winning a few techs.

Pan's Labyrinth had the same "achievement" in 2006 while it won Best in Cinematography, Art Direction and Makeup but lost Best Foreign Film to The Lives of Others.

I think Kung Fu Panda still has a chance to beat Wall-E. While Wall-E wins the "intensity" vote, it breaks even with KFP in the popularity category. In a democratic voting system, popularity is what counts.

this is awesome. Even though i thought Wall-e was the better film it is great to see the film taken down a few notches.

what a joke, this is absoltuely ridiculous. I love KFP it's hovering on the outside of my top 10 but Wall-E is easily the best animated film of the decade. These rewards need to be destroyed.

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

Foreign Language is a different beast though, since an academy member has to sign some affidavit saying they have seen all 5 movies in some special screening before voting for the winner. That's how Lives of Others won. Pan's Labyrinth fans most likely thought it will win so they skipped that part.

Same thing happened to Amelie (coincidentally, also a nominee for Original Screenplay).

Good for them - Kung-Fu Panda is a much better film than Wall-E. As Loyal pointed out, some of those action scenes were just outstanding, and for once, a Dreamworks film was genuinely funny! (The first time since... Shrek 2?)

As for Waltz with Bashir, I wouldn't doubt it's stronger still, but this sort of "pseudo-animation" never seems to get it's just desserts - see Waking Life, Polar Express, and Beowulf.

Please go back on vacation.

Then people will remember you as a smart person. Rather than as you are now.

Why, because I liked Kung-Fu Panda more? Last time I checked, the animated equivalent of the Oscars had a Kung-Fu Panda sweep, and a Wall-E snub fest. :P I guess they felt robbed of a fitting second half as well. (I'll freely admit the first 45 minutes of Wall-E were superb.)

Kung Fu Panda is a nice win. Both KFP and Wall-E have issues and for me its a toss up which is best so I have no real issue with this result.

You're going to lose your snob-cred with statements like that.

(BTW, did you even see KFP? It was a minor children's entertainment at best.)

I'll be honest.

Before Kung-Fu Panda and WALL-E came out I was looking forward to Kung-Fu Panda more simply because it looked like more fun and it was basically the animated version of films that I like a lot.

After I have seen both in theatres, there was no question for me which was better and that was NOT Kung-Fu Panda (albeit that one was still solid).
