Atonement power as expected. If American Gangster had been replaced by Into the Wild, it would have been great. Glad to see Bourne here, very well deserved! TF no special effect nod!

naming bourne ultimatum for best adapted screenplay is like nominating a ford pinto for world's best motorcycle.

What he means is that the movie has zero in common with the book, names aside pretty much.

 Re: BAFTA Longlists (nominations announced)
^doesn't matter. It's really out by now anyways. All I see it getting is an Actor nom for Depp, and it COULD miss out on that. Yay for There Will Be Blood! No Amy Ryan! Shrek the Third over Persepolis and Bee Movie? Blanchett's looking more and more like a double nominee. I think Atonement's probably gonna sneak into the race now. No 300 for VFX if it misses out on an Oscar nom, I'll be pretty damn pissed. It easily deserves the win. The visuals WERE the movie, for Christ's sake!!

Still, the balance could be redressed by lining up a shimmery roster of presenters, with possibly a bit of almost-royalty (Kate Middleton’s legs wouldn’t go amiss) as a trump card. So did they vote for it in costume design + makeup/hair just based on the trailer? Seems kinda fishy.

The cut off date is the day of the ceremony. Sweeney's out on January 25th here. Hell Juno's not even out until February 8th. Most of the big Oscar films don't get released over here until well into the New Year. As such, BAFTA makes the cut off date a bit later. For seemingly no reason other than to maintain a perceived relevancy to the Oscars and to detract from their overall credibility as a legitimate awards ceremony.
