I feel like BKB thinks the movie is a porno where Ennis and Jack just have sex with each other the entire time. How sad.
I can't add much to the conversation about the movie because I haven't seen it. Even without seeing it, anybody who thinks it out would probably realize that it definitely has a lot more to it than the nolvelty act. If they think it's all about the groping, it is kinda sad.
I do think there is a point in there about the perception of the source material. Gay men is a controversial thing. Right or wrong, it still brings much controversy, especially in your religious sects.
Look at the controversy last year that aided Million Dollar Baby, and I see a lot of similar things with Brokeback. Didn't a theater in Utah or somewhere refuse to show it?
Does anybody NOT think Brokeback Mountain will win it?

I think BKB's favourite scene would be when Ennis enters Jack's tent to escape the cold and in the middle of the night Jack wraps Ennis' arm around him and Ennis is like woah and Jack is like oh and Ennis is like huh and Jack is like yeah baby and Ennis is like not this time cowboy and takes the reigns from Jack.

I get dry heaves looking at black people, Asians, and other non-whites liplocking. Disgusting.

BKB, do me a favor. You made this gutsy prediction, so see the film and review it for us as soon as it hits your area. I think everybody here would agree that a BKB review of Brokeback Mountain would be the most anticipated event of the season!

I'm with dar. I would even pay BKB, just to see his reaction.
Someone, please make some bet with BKB in which case if he loses, he will see the film...

Wait.
Wasn't that the reason why it wouldn't win or even be nominated just a few months ago?
Hasn't Hollywood gone all liberal and stuff all of a sudden in the past few weeks

I don´t like him very much... but of course, in order to make it a real challenge, I would concentrate on the predator. Or the alien. Or Ewen Bremner.

I don't understand why people take all this so seriously. Even if Borkeback won because it was a "gay" movie and the Academy wanted to make some kind of statement (like they did in 2002 with Denzel Washington, Halle Barry and Sidney Poiter) is that really such a bad thing?

If the quality justifies it, it's not a bad thing, and it would appear that quality would justify it with Brokeback Mountain.

Oh yeah for sure, the quality would have to justify it. It's just some people think that there is only one movie deserving to win the title when in fact there are at least a dozen films released this past year that could deserve to win in their own right.

Oh Dude, it is different and when's the last time they made a Gay Western??? Hell, they just showed that clip again on TALK SOUP on "E" of those 2 in a tight as hell lip lock that caused me to have an Epileptic Seizure.. Like I said, to each's own I suppose but I dig women and either way and outside of this, this movie's gonna clean up at the Oscars for the subject matter and Politcally Correctness of it all and make the Academy Members look good in the process..

I'm not shy about admitting this or give a rat's ass what folks think, but I feel homosexuality is an Abomination and I have no desire to see this butt pirate western of a movie period, but I'm smart enough to know that this movie is the Politically Correct Movie of the Year and a BEST PICTURE Win from this would elevate the Academy members status in the Homo Community sky high and give them a pat on the back for taking a chance and doing something bold like giving it to a movie like this.. This Ladies and Gentlemen are the reasons WHY this movie will win and it sucks royally because of it..You really think the Acadmey is STILL looking for affirmation from the gay community? The Hours, Chicago, Moulin Rouge (my stereotyping for the day), As Good as It Gets, The Crying Game, Gods and Monsters, American Beauty, Mulholland Dr., Far From Heaven, Kinsey... You make it seem as though Oscars for gay movies is something new.
The way their pushing the envelope with this?? YES, I do.. It's a Politically Correct choice in elevating this film to BEST PICTURE status to put the Academy members in a good light by giving BUTTBACK MOUNTAIN The BEST PICTURE Win.. Hell, after the win, WILL and GRACE Will devote a whole Live Episode to it..

I wanted a sad Hollywood version of Get Real or Beautiful Thing (two indie films about gay forbidden love). Maybe It´s better to evaluate films for what they are, and not what you want them to be. Don't pretend to know how it's better for me to evaluate films. thanks You're glib... You don't know the history of psychiatry, I do! Heh. I feel like BKB thinks the movie is a ##### where Ennis and Jack just have sex with each other the entire time. How sad.
Well, considering every clip or scene I've seen from this film that they've shown on "E" with both actors in a passionate lip lock that caused my dick to droop, one would probably have that impression given the fact that there proud of this scene the most to show it enough and make it look like BAREBUTT MOUNTAIN is like that....

Uh, dude...you should have learned this a while ago but I guess you missed it...but kissing does not constitute for sex.

MikeQ. wrote: You've got to be kidding me. Brokeback Mountain isn't winning awards left and right and being loved by the critics because it features a gay love story. If anything, the gay subject matter should have been something that turned this movie off to critics, and allowed them to criticize it and destroy the movies chances. There are sadly still homophobes out there who would take any opportunity to slam the film, but the problem is it has turned out to be such a damn good movie. Arguing that the only reason it is getting awards is because it's gay is just narrowminded. You're leaving out all of the praises the film is getting for the film itself. The fact that this film is getting accolades everywhere and is the extreme frontrunner to win at the Oscars despite being a serious film with a gay relationship as the major theme just goes to show how good of a movie it must be, in my opinion.
PEACE, Mike.
Bullshit.. It is NOT Narrow minded and it is being touted heavily for the scene they show over and over of both actors sucking each other's face, which is probably the only thing they can get away with sucking in the Promo trailers that the MPAA will allow.. Either way, this movie is a shoe in for BEST PICTURE and it sucks so bad because of it, it's not even funny and WALK THE LINE STILL should win BEST PICTURE but sadly, it won't because of this.. Maybe if they showed Johnny Cash engaging in Homosexuality, it would be the shoe in to win BEST PICTURE, but oh well..

And??? Your telling this to me because??? I never said it did in my above post, just that Hollywood keeps touting their scene when they both suck face passionately for daring and bold Oscar purposes and BEST PICTURE considerations and it's working.....
