The last film to win 6 Golden Globes was The Midnight Express in 1978, however, TWO of those awards are from a categories that don't exist anymore: the ‘New Star of the Year’ awards, which they had one category for males and one for females. The following are the awards it won:

Best Picture – Drama
John Hurt, Supporting Actor
Brad Davis, New Star of the Year Award – Male
Irene Miracle, New Star of the Year Award – Female
Best Screenplay
Best Original Score

So, it doesn’t seem to really count. It only got 4 awards counting today’s categories; didn’t even get director.

Gandhi in 1982 won 5 awards - though there was a "New Star of the Year" award that year also, which made it 5. Kingsley won for Best Actor and 'New Star of the Year - Male' - and the film also won Best Director, Best Foreign Film, and Screenplay.

In 1980, Ordinary People won 5 awards too, but that was again with the “New Star of the Year Award”. Timothy Hutton won for Supporting Actor and ‘New Star of the Year – Male’. Film also got Best Drama, Best Actress and Best Director.

So I looked back at all years from 1978 to today, and the only film to win 6 awards is one that won two awards that don’t exist today (The Midnight Express). And then even after that, there are only two other films in that time span that won even 5 awards, and both of those films won an award that doesn’t exist today (Gandhi, Ordinary People).

So, technically, the 3 films I just presented all won only 4 awards, counting today’s categories. All other films at most only won 4 Golden Globes. So that seems to be the magic number for a ‘big’ film in terms of awards.

To conclude, I find it extremely unlikely then that Brokeback Mountain wins 6 Golden Globes. If it does, that will be an incredible feat, which hasn’t been matched by a lot of incredible films in the past.

I think Ledger may miss out on Best Actor to Hoffman. And they might even reward Score to a “grander” type score, like Kong or Narnia. Who knows. Best Director could go to Clooney, since he is really respected, but I do think Ang Lee will win., Whatever awards, I think there will be a one or two that Brokeback misses on. Like I said, getting 6 Golden Globes wins would be spectacular and very nearly unprecedented, and would catapult that film into a huge frontrunner status (and it already is in a very secure frontrunner status, so holy, heh).

PEACE, Mike.

Thanks a lot for the info, Mike.

I am very certain on Supporting Actress/Picture/Song categories.

For the Score, GG sometimes make weird choices, sometimes even award movie that don't get an Oscar nom later on...it might go to Memoirs or Kong which I had up there at first, but then went for BBM.

As for Heath Leder, it's a risky pick, but as I saw Portman and Owen winning for Closer last year, something in me said, they will go for a BBM lovefrst and award Ledger, as a young hotshot performer.

Best Director is the one I am most uncertain about. I think it's 50/50 because Ang Lee has already won for CTHD.

But I still think it should manage 5, if not 6.

Some of my personally favourite presenters:

Good Night & Good Luck Clip - Drew Barrymore (she's fun and bright. I love how she is presenting the GNAGL clip)
The Constant Gardener Clip - Tim Robbins (Tim Robbins + The Constant Gardener = awesomeness)
Pride & Prejudice Clip - Emma Thompson (I looooooooooove Emma Thompson - beyond words)
Film Screenplay - Virginia Madsen & Harrison Ford (Interesting match up)
Cecil B. DeMille Award - Gwyneth Paltrow (I just tend to like her and how she speaks. Sweet person.)
TV Drama Series - Will & Grace Cast (This is going to be funny - this cast cheers' eachother every time they lost as a cast at the Emmy's, they're just great and good spirited. Heh)
Film Drama Actress - Leonardo DiCaprio (DiCaprio is one of the greatest actors working right now. He's excellent.)
Film Drama - Denzel Washington (I find him to be very charasmatic. I enjoy him as an actor and a person.)

And this is not to say I don't like the rest of the presenters (although some are weird choices), just that the above are my personal favourites to see. Too bad I won't be able to watch because I won't have access to a television.

PEACE, Mike.

Film Supporting Actress - Natalie Portman & Adrien Brody

(If I was a girl, I wouldn't want to be presented anything by Andrian Brody, but I wonder why they are listed for presenting both?)

TV Supporting Actor - Jessica Alba & Luke Wilson

( Jessica! Who actually is a decent actress.)

TV Supporting Actress - Rosario Dawson & Julian McMahon

(Fine choices)

Good Night & Good Luck Clip - Drew Barrymore

Intro of HFPA President - Emmy Rossum

TV Drama Actress - Nicollette Sheridan & Josh Duhamel

(Nicolette is hot, and I can't believe anybody would ever say she looks like a man... Obviously, those who say such things aren't very familiar with what a woman is. SNL even made a joke of that a few weeks ago.)

TV Drama Actor - Evangeline Lilly & Ian McShane

Intro of Miss Golden Globe - Melanie Griffith

(Anybody know who miss Golden Globe is this year?)

The Producers Clip - Melanie Griffith

TV Mini-Series or Movie - Queen Latifah & Paul Walker

TV Comedy Actor - Pamela Anderson & William Petersen

The Constant Gardener Clip - Tim Robbins

Film Comedy/Musical Actress - Jamie Foxx

(I swear, if he starts that annoying AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO stuff again...

TV Comedy Actress - Chris Rock

Pride & Prejudice Clip - Emma Thompson

TV Mini/Movie Actor - Kate Beckinsale & Eric Bana

TV Mini/Movie Actress - Kate Beckinsale & Eric Bana

Match Point Clip - Colin Firth

Film Screenplay - Virginia Madsen & Harrison Ford

(ALRIGHT! It'll be nice to see Harrison involved in the game again!)

TV Comedy Series - Jill Hennessy & TBA

Mrs. Henderson Presents Clip - Penelope Cruz

Foreign Language Film - Sarah Jessica Parker & Matthew McConaughy

A History of Violence Clip - Catherine Deneuve

Film Original Score - Brandon Routh & TBA

(I'll finally get to size up Superman a bit)

Film Original Song - Mariah Carey

(That woman is curvy!)

Cecil B. DeMille Award - Gwyneth Paltrow

The Squid & the Whale Clip - Mandy Moore

(I have kinda had a thing for her ever since I saw A Walk to Remember, which was a film I absolutely love.)

Film Director - Clint Eastwood

(CLINT IS IN THE HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!)

Film Musical/Comedy Actor - John Travolta

(It'll be good to see him involved)

Walk the Line Clip - Tim McGraw

(Faith Hill would have been a better choice, or even Kenny Chesney, due to the next presenter)

Film Musical or Comedy - Renee Zellweger

(heh)

TV Drama Series - Will & Grace Cast

Brokeback Mountain Clip - Dennis Quaid

Film Drama Actress - Leonardo DiCaprio

Film Drama Actor - Hilary Swank

(She pretty much dropped off the face of the planet since the Oscars last year.)

Film Drama - Denzel Washington

Looks like a pretty solid list of presenters.

Walk the Line and Brokeback Mountain will be the last two clips presented. Look suspicious to me. :)

Preemption is the mark of genius.

I looked at the list of members who comprise the HFPA and I went with what would appeal most to them.

Loyal, you are clearly pretty insane.

Hehe.

No seriously, do you know that you have a movie winning which director wasn't nominated and a director winning whose movie was not nominated? You know what is the likelihood for them to win?

Get them predictions up there, folks!

Unfortunately, I got tied up earlier and didn't get to see Munich or Capote today, so maybe one tomorrow. I would have liked to see them before the Globes, but I won't have Brokeback viewed, either.
I don't think you actually need to see the movie because it's not about our opinions of the films, but I still would have liked to, but I was a little too busy. I get 'em all in before the Oscars, and then some.

I won't be here for the Globes, just after them. I have no TV in my room right no and no computer in my living room (and no notebook either for that matter). And I won't be running back and forth between the two rooms. So I watch the show (after sleeping a bit now) and then will come here and discuss it a bit.

If that happens, we'll have a very fun time waiting for Oscar nominees, since things will have opened up a lot. A History of Violence winning Best Picture, but getting no noms for PGA or DGA, and Spielberg winning over both Lee and Clooney.

Crazy stuff.

Here are my predictions:

Best Actor - Drama
