You know I cant wait till Eastwood's movie with a cheap cast beats Marty with his incredible cast come oscar time. It's gonna be just so sweet, Eastwood will get the best out of these incredibly hollow actors, which means he'll get actual acting from them which is enough to guarantee him best picture since the movie will be so incredibly well made that acting wont matter much, so there.

Well, ya know, The Departed has Mark Wahlberg as one of the leads...

Wahlberg awful performance in The Trtuh ABout Charlie is on par with Paul Walker. Wahlberg was also pretty shitty in Planet of the Apes. Mark Wahlberg has the charisma of a paper bag. Yes he was good in Boogie Nights, I think that was a fluke. Donnie Wahlberg is amuch better actor. Dr. Lecter wrote: MikeQ. wrote: andaroo wrote: BTW Paul Walker is the lead in Flags of our Fathers.
And that Disney movie with the huskies! Paul Walker is the lead in Flags of our Fathers?!?!? Well, we can count that film out of any Oscar consideration now. PEACE, Mike. Jesse Bradford is in it as well Bradford was very good in Bring It On I have faith in Eastwood, sometimes bad actors can fit roles (Keanu Reeves in the first Matrix film and The Gift, in everything else he sucsk, in the former his cluless ness worked nad in the latter he shows up and acts). Eastwood been making nothing but good movies lately, so I have to hope that he sees something in Walker that makes him capable fo this role. *prays* andaroo wrote: Oh god, Ryan Phillipe AND Paul Walker are in Flags of Our Fathers.
The more I read this thread the more I want to cry, what did Eastwood say please don';t hire any good young actors, get me the blandest most wooden white boys you got.

Roeper said Naomi Watts's performance is nomination worthy.

Wahlberg deserved some kind of nomination/recognition for I Heart Huckabees. He can be very good.

Ouch for Mrs Henderson Presents!!!!
It's looking at a PTA of just $7,000 or so this weekend in only 6 theaters.
Maybe Judi Dench is not so much of a lock after all.

Like I've been trying to say!
She's still a contender... just don't see why everyone thinks she's such a lock. The lead category is taken a bit more seriously than the following water cooler talk amongst Oscar voters...
Voter 1: So, seems like Theorn is taking another stabd at some Oscar fodder, you think we should pay attention?
Voter 2: I don't know, the race is actually nonexistent at this point; the only somewhat of a contender we have is Joan Allen
Voter 1: Isn't Reese Witherspoon gonna star in the Cash movie with Joaquin?
Voter 3: Ya, I think she is... that might be interesting...
Voter 4: Say, does Judi have a film coming out thsi year?
Voter 2: Hold up, lemme check
Silent pause ensues as Voter 2 looks up Dame Judi Dench's upcoming films on imdb
Voter 3: I dunno, I think she's just doing a bunch of plays now....
Voter 2: Ya, some movie called MRs. Henderson Presents... looks like another British one.
Voter 4: Well, that's one down!
Voter 1: Ya, guess that makes this category a little easier to fill down the road.
Voter 3: Hmmm.... should we wait till her 10th nod to give her another win or can we just do it this year? Seems like there's no front-runner at this point!
Voter 2: [Silently to himself] Mmmm... I love you Judi
Or maybe not.... we'll see when nominations are announced

Well, LAFCA didn't clear this race up much, did it? I doubt Vera Farmiga gets a nomination, but it looks like Judi Dench will. Not that there was ever much doubt about that.

So I still pretty confident with my Joan Allen, Judi Dench, Reese Witherspoon, and Felicity Huffman predictions.
I don't know though, it looks like both Transamerica and Mrs hEnderson Present might fail to make even $1 million at the box office. So it'd be kinda strange to ahve to nominees for such small films.
The last spot still seems to be up for grabs.

lol I think she's a contender for the last spot, but far from a safe choice.
I'll believe it when I see it. She'll probably get a Golden Globe nomination. If she gets SAG I might believe it. But Evan Rachel Wood got a SAG nomination and Globe and still missed out.

Evan Rachel Wood's field was stronger than this year's crop is.

She was great in P&P.
Im hoping Dane Dench gets a supporting nod for her work in it as well. No one does icy cold better.

I actually think if Mrs. henderson fails, she'll get Pride and Prejudice instead. Another short yet memorable role.

My predictions as of now:

Vera Farmiga, Down to the Bone
Felicty Huffman, Transamerica
Keira Knightly, Pride and Prejudice
Reese Witherspoon, Walk the Line
Judi Dench, Mrs. Henderson Presents
Charlize Theron, North Country

Judi Dench
Felicity Huffman
Keira Knightley
Naomi Watts
Reese Witherspoon
I'd alternate Joan Allen with Judi Dench if the film does horrible while expanding (if it even has plans to expand).
If Joan Allen gets in there instead of Dench, I'll be VERRRY happy with the top 5!!!
Other than that, Charlize Theron seems to be the only one that has some sort of chance.

Could we really have two actresses from films that are failing miserably at the box office? By that I mean Huffman and Dench. Both are in my predictions as well, but Transamerica drop over 60% even though it's only playing in two theaters and this is only its second weekend. It will probably have a worse run than The Sea Inside did. Mrs. Henderson Presents isn't too hot either. And if Theron is still in the mix, that will make three badly-performed films at the box office.

The question is...what exactly are the alternatives for both of them. Okay, Watts might get in for Huffman....but for Dench? Especially considering that the Academy loves Dench.
