There's very little in Hollywood that is devoid of bias. You want a documentary to win the Osar? Make one about the Holocaust. You want an actress to win the award? Turn her into an ugly woman. You want to beat Star Wars for best picture? Make a pretentious little snoozefest of a comedy and you'll get your way. You reemmber what Eddie Murphy said in Bowfinger about winning the Best Actor Oscar? "White boys always get the Oscar. It's a known fact. Did I ever get a nomination? No! You know why? Cause I hadn't played any of them slave roles, and get my ass whipped. That's how you get the nomination. A black dude who plays a slave that gets his ass whipped gets the nomination, a white guy who plays an idiot gets the Oscar. That's what I need, I need to play a retarded slave, then I'll get the Oscar. "So funny, so true
I loved that line, and the Academy jsut enjoy nominating slave roles. I hate the Magical Mystial negro more, Michal Clarke Dunca int he Green Mile, WIll Smith in Bagger Vance, ugh...at least play a damn slave.

Ahem.
Everyone was oblivious to this post, but I guess I got my answer, eh? So according to the foreign press, Spielberg and Jackson did a better job directing their movies than did Cronenberg, yet Cronenberg's movie was better? I'm always a little perplexed at these director/picture swaps, but whatever. Also, I believe people are being too quick to discount The New World for oscars because of these noms and I expect that this committee never even came near a screening of that movie.

If anyone thinks Munich has a chance of winning still...
Keep in mind that only one film in the past 30 years has won a best picture Oscar without at least a best picture golden globe nomination, either in comedy or drama.

No, when people were just wanting to hand out awards for it, I tried to tell them it was too obvious of a win. Not getting a BP nom at the Globes isn't the end of the world, but that, along with less than stellar reviews, pretty much kills it's chances.

I dont follow the award threads here so is it pretty much safe to assume that Brokeback Mnt has the highest chance of winning best pictures for the oscar than any other movie this year because of its golden globe nominations it has received?

Unlike the TV noms, the movie noms are actually pretty good. I'm glad there were a few surprises, especially The Constant Gardener. But...I'm surprised Finnes was snubbed when Weisz, Meirelles, and the picture itself were nominated.

The last one to made it was "The sting"
"Gandhi" was not nominated for BP at the Globes, but that is cause they considered to be a foreign film.

You know what, it wasn't eligible cause it was nominated and won for best foreign film.
So technically, NO film eligible for the best picture globe that wasn't nominated has gone on to win the best picture oscar, in the past 30 years.
It was nominated there and won, as well as actor, director, and screenplay. so it was in a mmuch better position either way.

Uh? I didn´t undertsand that. But I love you, anyway. Let´s get married or something.
I have no idea why Gandhi was foreign to them... and I haven´t seen the film. Could it be that It was a UK-India coproduction and at the time they didn´t accept those? Again, no idea...
