I'm really surprised Linklater didn't win. The second choice was Iñárritu, but I didn't think he would ever actually win. I knew Eastwood didn't stand a chance. So what does this mean for the Oscars? Iñárritu will win everything??!

I saw Birdman a couple of days ago. It's a really good movie. I don't mind it winning for direction. Inarittu did a great job. And editing is the true star of the movie. Makes it so breezy and an easy and fun watch. This Oscar race might finally be an intersting one.

Yeah, I don't have a problem with him winning either. He did a fantastic job. Let's his actors act. I would be happy with him winning the Oscar too, or Wes Anderson, but I feel Anderson has no momentum at this point.

I love Boyhood, but I can see why Birdman might have won over the voting sectors.

It's a movie for the industry, really.

At this point I don't think I have a preference of who to win.

Not Wes Anderson though, Algren. Moonrise Kingdom was much better than Grand Budapest.

Also at least American Sniper's box office will prove irrelevant in terms of its chances for awards.

If Birdman closes things out, this will be the first time my favorite film of the year would win in years.

I am very fine with Birdman winning this, but it is a huge huge surprise. It is a mirror of when The Social Network swept all the critics awards and then The King's Speech came in and showed it how it's done when it comes to real awards - except that in this case, Birdman is not your typical awards bait stuff, unlike The King's Speech, so power to it.

Nonetheless, I believe Boyhood still has a chance.

Very nice! If the Birdman win pans out, it will actually be the second year in a row that my #2 film wins it all.

It's so weird that Birdman has taken off as the clear Best Picture frontrunner. Don't get me wrong: I love the movie, and I think it would make for a unique entry in the Best Picture annals. That being said, it's very surprising that a somewhat surreal comedy is ahead of a critical darling coming-of-age tale, a WWII drama that did far better business than expected, and a zeitgeisty war film that seems to be building up about as much bipartisan support as opposition in the industry.

I very much dug Birdman but I'm so mad it's a distinct possibility Boyhood is losing Best Picture.

I just noticed a far bigger outrage in the DGA awards:

"Homeland" won over "True Detective"'s outstanding "Who Goes There"-episode. WTF???!!

Brokeback is a very strong precedent that missing Best Editing nom= throw out precursors. So race is not over. also the last 2 years being BP/BD split years may not be an anomaly, and that could happened once again.

I've always felt like Boyhood never felt like a BP winner but we'll see. Why the hell did Birdman lose at the Golden Globes? Not that that's much of an indication of Oscars but that's strange.

Wes Anderson's a bigger name, the Globes favor popularity.

Birdman is hardly short on big names, though, in front of and behind the camera. And they awarded Babel over The Departed and The Queen in 2006, showing a certain fondness for González Iñárritu. It is surprising Birdman lost there.

perhaps Birdman's harsh portrayal on newspaper critics in the movie hurt their number of awards wins for Hollywood Foreign Press and critics groups, but Hollywood industry most likely share the same view of critics so don't mind voting such.

My fav BP nom is Whiplash, but because that will never happen, I will endorse Birdman over Boyhood. Boyhood is great, a superb film, but Birdman would be such an amazing winner.

It is a bit shocking, but both are terrific episodes.
