 Re: Best Actress 2013
It'd have to be outright terrific because Dench is getting tons of praise, she won't be around for long anymore (sorry, Dame Dench) and I don't think she'll wrap up her career with just one supporting role Oscar. She's Academy royalty and if all I have read about Philomena is true, it's a knockout performance. The British segment will push for her hard.

Nicole Kidman is out with Grace of Monaco delayed until spring. That could open up a spot for someone.

 Re: Best Actress 2013
With Kidman officially out, I feel like this category has become fairly predictable. Someone could still shake it up but I'm going with...
Amy Adams, American Hustle Cate Blanchett, Blue Jasmine Sandra Bullock, Gravity Judi Dench, Philomena Meryl Streep, August: Osage County

 Re: Best Actress 2013
I would say Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet are the only other two in the mix at this point.

 Re: Best Actress 2013
This is such a boring category. Women only ever win this award if they cry. It's the only thing they can do.
All focus is on the Best Actor and Best Picture categories. Not this shit.

 Re: Best Actress 2013
Well based on the raves, pending audience reception, potential box office run, and timing, The Blind Side Oscar run is speeding ahead again. Gravitational forces just won't be able to stop Bullock's Oscar win. With a film anchored on her performance in what will probably be one of the most talked about performances of the year, I would consider Sandra Bullock a frontrunner for this award now, and might just become a sweep if box office and audience momentum can match the raves. If this gets to $200 m +, its going to be incredibly hard for anyone to have a chance.

 Re: Best Actress 2013
The race seems to be between Bullock and Blanchett, unless the Academy goes apeshit over Philomena. Poor Amy Adams probably has to wait out another nomination.

Sandra Bullock deserves this. It's an absolutely virtuoso performance.

It's still Blanchett to lose in my book.

Judi Dench will have the British fraction on her side...

 Re: Best Actress 2013
You can even see bad acting from Bullock in the trailer, so I don't expect much greatness in the full feature.

 Re: Best Actress 2013
Folks (mostly on the Internet) were up in arms about Bullock's obvious "bad acting" in The Blind Side, and that didn't stop her from winning for that one.

Bullock should not even be nominated, in my opinion.

 Re: Best Actress 2013
Agreed, Bullocks performance is great for the movie, but it's hardly Shakespeare material.
