 Re: Best Picture 2012
I'm glad it's getting good buzz. I anticipate this movie a lot, hopefully it turns out great. But it won't be an easy sell. It will need absolutely great WOM.

 Re: Best Picture 2012
So after that new TV spot Lincoln looks to be the favorite once again - sight unseen, of course.
Thing is, Lincoln doesn't need to be amazing to win. It just needs to be very good.

Silver Linings Playbook will be very big too. But Lincoln, if a good film, is guaranteed to do $100+ million.

 Re: Best Picture 2012
So the category was expanded to allow The Dark Knight to get in, and now people don't think it will get in? Was Inception Nolan's pity lay?

Extremely Loud also proved that you only need a couple passionate fans among the voters to score a nomination.

 Re: Best Picture 2012
By the way, Lincoln had excellent reception at its NYFF viewing. Lots of comments about how surprisingly writing/dialog heavy it is (one reviewer tweeted it's Spielberg's Social Network) and pointing out how Kushner being a playwright is very obvious by the style of the script

Magnus wrote: Can't see any other film having 10+ nominations. Les Miserables could get 10, though I agree that Lincoln will probably end up with more. I'd expect something like 12 nominations for Lincoln and 10 for Les Miserables. Heck, The Master might even have a shot at 10. It'll probably get nominations for best pic, director, lead actor, supporting actor, supporting actress, and screenplay, which means that it would need 4 technical nominations to reach 10 total. That's doable, since I think it's being mentioned as a possible nominee for stuff like cinematography, score, film editing, etc.

Life of Pi could pull a Hugo and get 10+ nominations.

I vote: Life of Pi
Even the trailer is better than most other full feature BP Oscar hopefuls.

 Re: Best Picture 2012
Lincoln's early reviews are good enough where I think it'll definitely get nominated, not great enough where I think it will win.

 Re: Best Picture 2012
A lot of people (Oscar prognosticators and such) seem to be slightly dismissing Django Unchained sight unseen, which might be an error.

So, it looks like Lincoln now has the reviews and the box-office. Will be a hard film to top.

I still think Les Mis is a monster waiting to be unleashed. We'll hear soon enough. I agree that Lincoln will likely remain one of the frontrunners all season long.

until just now, i wasn't paying attention and was sort of taking it for granted that lincoln was getting a war horse reception...but this isn't the case. inneresting
