See: Michael A call me what you will. Bale had moments where I was interested but for the most part he was quite cartoonish, very much "look at me I have personality" performance. I think it's an indication that the AMPAS are not as emphatic as the guilds suggested. Re: Oscar Chat Live! I think that refers to nominations. Like a movie that misses an editing nomination rarely wins Best Picture.
The fact The King's Speech lost to a movie with way flasher cutting doesn't really reflect poorly on its BP chances.
