At least no King's Speech sweep happened.
Though I'm sure it'll still win Best Picture...but maybe not!

I s'pose they don't do the bit where they introduce every Best Picture nominee anymore.

 Re: Oscar Chat Live!
so is it a bad sign for King Speech to lose so many of the technical awards? If it doesn't win Film Editing, I am thinking Social Network will win best picture.

Although, when was the last film to win best picture and lose so many nominations?

No Country for Old Men lost both sound awards, Best Editing, and Best Cinematography before coming alive in the above-the-line categories.

King's Speech looks vulnerable right now. Fincher definitely the favorite for director.

Seriously, though, anyone pretending Bale was anything less than spectacular in The Fighter is a bit of a pretentious fop trying way, way too hard. See: Michael A

Otherwise I'll have to wait for the dvd.

SPEECH not winning a bunch of the smaller awards doesn't mean it won't take the top prize.

See: Michael A call me what you will. Bale had moments where I was interested but for the most part he was quite cartoonish, very much "look at me I have personality" performance. Distinctly reminds me of Sabu in Blind Side in retrospect, mind you much more tolerable than that, but similar.

 Re: Oscar Chat Live!
Any idea of a WAVE OF PASSION for The King's Speech has certainly evaporated.
But it did win Screenplay. And Firth'll win. And Picture is very, very much in play.

 Re: Oscar Chat Live!
The Social Network winning Editing = very expected
It jumps around in time a lot and stuff.

It jumps around in time a lot and stuff. I don't remember the exact statistics but editing is generally quite indicative of BP.

 Re: Oscar Chat Live!
King's Speech hasn't won the smaller awards, but it just seems more like a movie the Academy would make BP than Social Network does. We'll see, but I still think it goes to King's Speech.

 Re: Oscar Chat Live!
I think that refers to nominations. Like a movie that misses an editing nomination rarely wins Best Picture.
The fact The King's Speech lost to a movie with way flasher cutting doesn't really reflect poorly on its BP chances.

 Re: Oscar Chat Live!
But if Fincher wins, then it would have won less Oscars than Inception and Social Network, that would be a first or it hasn't happened in a very long time.

 Re: Oscar Chat Live!
I love the song "If I Rise," but it's not as instantly accessible as the other three songs.
Florence Welch has such a lovely voice.
