so why is slumdog a terrible choice...? it's an absolutely brilliant film in my opinion. its a simplistic story told in an incredibly creative & engrossing way, using fantastic imagery & sound.
It was a terrible movie. If you liked the layered storytelling and "engrossing" narrative structure, not to mention the imagery and sound, what do you think of Cidade de Deus? It is similiar in all of these elements and combines them into effective emotional resonance and strong characters, something Slumdog did not. In addition it did not attempt to manipulate the audience and spend 118 minutes depicting tragic events and the disturbing aspects of humanity only to cancell it all out with two minutes euphoric fairy tale love in the finale which Slumdog Millionaire did. Slumdog did feature quality production including effective cinematography all throughout and an interesting editing style, as well as the sound you already mentioned. However strong production is only one element of filmmaking, and I found it offensive, blatant, dull, and neither interesting nor profound in any sense.
That said, it was not nearly as awful as other films such as crash and A Beautiful Mind that won best picture.
