Maybe Fanning isn't dead in the water. Its a longshot, but they could pull her up.

For what movie?

Dreamer, I would imagine. Not Hide & Seek or Nine Lives.

She has the huge box office as an advantage.. I'd personally nominate her, but I don't think she has a shot yet, unfortunately...

I'd be surprised considering how big a bomb Elizabethtown is turning out to be.

Some of you have probably already seen what Oscarwatch.com is reporting about this, but here's a link anyway:

http://incontention.blogspot.com/

Diane Keaton will be a supporting actress contender for The Family Stone and Sarah Jessica Parker will be pushed lead. I think Keaton could easily win this, esp. with other recent contenders faltering out of the gates.

I was about to post the same link. Go Keaton, though I'm unclear on all the Family Stone hype.

Yeah, I keep hearing all this great buzz, but the trailer looks like a Meet The Parents/Monster-In-Law ripoff (and I know you loved Monster-In-Law, loyal). Still, Keaton is having a career resurgence. I'd like to see her win. The recent wins in this category have been for strong secondary leads (Harden, Connelly, Zeta Jones, Zellweger, and Blanchett) so this seems very likely.

The Family Stone is much more of a dramedy than the previews are making it look like, supposedly.

I could very easily see Diane Keaton winning Supporting Actress.

I saw The Squid and The Whale last Saturday, and Laura Linney was quite good in it, but I guess back-to-back nominations are hard to pull off.

I'd add Uma Thurman and a Geisha girl to that list and you'd be set for awards season.

Ah, the epic battle between Li and Yeoh.

:excited:

I think Johansson will finally make it. I doubt she'll win. Keaton should, but even if Keaton didn't, I don't think the academy will go for two young actresses in the same year (Witherspoon being the other).

Don't count out Michelle Williams yet, either. I'm not familiar with her, but Brokeback Mountain is looking strong...

I keep forgetting about Williams. She has a strong chance at a nomination, maybe the best of all the cast of Brokeback Mountain.

Updated:

- Diane Keaton, The Family Stone
- Scarlett Johansson, Match Point
- Maria Bello, A History of Violence
- Shirley MacLaine, In Her Shoes
- Uma Thurman, The Producers (she didn't make it for the Kill Bill saga, unfortunately; she was considered a very strong contender for the supporting actress Oscar back in '95, for Pulp Fiction, but lost for Dianne Wiest... - all of this might work to her advantage...)

I think it will come down to between Keaton and Gong Li for the win. Keaton is the frontrunner, but by all acounts, Gong Li stole the show in Memoirs, so if she can pick up a few critic awards, she will be right there.

My current ranking:

1. Diane Keaton, The Family Stone
2. Gong Li, Memoirs of a Geisha
3. Scarlett Johansson, Match Point
4. Michelle Williams, Brokeback Mountain
5. Maria Bello, A History of Violence
6. Michelle Yeoh, Memoirs of a Geisha
7. Uma Thurman, The Producers
8. Shirley MacLaine, In Her Shoes
9. Frances McDormand, North Country
10. Amy Adams, Junebug
