 Re: 2009 Best Picture Prospects
Sad thing...Cage is actually a great actor with the great material too.
I believe his Oscar win was completely deserved as was his Oscar nom for Adaptation.
But then he brings along The Wicker Man and Bang Cock Dangerous.

The Lovely Bones - 9 votes Nine - 8 votes Shutter Island - 8 votes The Human Factor - 7 votes Public Enemies - 6 votes
I wouldn't have guessed The Lovely Bones would be leading votes (I'd pegged The Human Factor for that). But I haven't read the book either.

Early prospect: Brothers
Directed by Jim Sheridan, starring Natalie Portman, Tobey Maguire, and Jake Gyllenhaal, Afghanistani war plotline.
Idk, but it comes out in the UK in a month...and all three actors could be worthy.

Some movie that comes out of nowhere distributed by Fox Searchlight will be nominated. Obviously.

What about the Green Zone movie Paul Greengrass made with Matt Damon?
And is the Aronofsky movie happening? Cuz I remember Mark Wahlberg had some words to say a few months ago. And what about his Robocop remake?

But hey! That helped Crash! I don't know if I would say The Lovely Bones is "about rape." It's not, really. The main character is raped and murdered, yes, but it's more about her watching over her family and their subsequent response.

It sounds awfully cheesy. So like, the girl spends the movie standing on a cloud looking down at her family?

There's one scene, where if Wahlberg can pull it off, he could get an Oscar for... Heh.

Is Wahlberg a better choice for the dad than Ryan Gosling?

 Re: 2009 Best Picture Prospects
Marky Mark always sounds confused which worked great in The Happening. Unexplained worldwide phenomenon killing tonnes of people, I'd be confused too.
All his other roles however, doesn't work as well.

 Re: 2009 Best Picture Prospects
If only DDL would star in films more often..he'd beat Jack Nicholson for the most Oscars won by an actor. Hell, he's 2/4...and the Academy loves him.
I'm pretty sure he'll win another one during his career.

 Re: 2009 Best Picture Prospects
The DDL pics look great. Why did I think Nine was an animated film that so many well known actors were voicing characters for??
