Christian, is your dad a homosexual, or merely a good-for-nothing hipster?

Well, TDK-snubbed is Reader-related, as it replaced it in all the categories.

I'd go with only three Song nominees. Has that ever happened before? Was there not enough eligible songs to make it a five nominee category?

What a joke.

It happened three years ago actually. Only 3 made it (Traveling Thru, In the Deep, and It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp). It happened in 1988 too (which ironically, Bruce Springstein won that year).

The way the best song category works is that you have to rate a song from one to ten, then they get the mean (or average for those who don't know math). The magic number is at 8.6. You have to pass that number to get a nod. In this case, only three songs made it past that magic number. There may more than 5 that pass it, but only the top ones will make it. But this year, only three made it past the magic 8.6 number. It's a ridiculous method of voting, I know.

Hehe, the song from Working Girl won in 1988. The Boss wasn't nominated.

That's bullshit. What if none of the songs make it past that magical number? Or only one? Would they even bother with the category?

Michael Shannon

To elaborate: as great as he is in the film, I figured he would only be nominated if there was a wave of support for the film itself (Picture, DiCaprio, Winslet, Mendes, the adapted screenplay). I am very surprised he ended up being the lone "Road" nomination in the top categories, since the role is so small (though very memorable!). It's a nice surprise seeing as he *owns* his few scenes in the film.

Oops, your right, I was thinking of the wrong year. The Boss won in 1993.
