I think there could be a suprise winner again this year for best picture. I think Scorcese is a lock for best director, but like 1998 when The Weinsteins bought best picture and spielberg won BD, there could be an upset this year.

I hope there's an upset too. The movie many once tried to write off, Babel, beats the heavyweights, The Departed and Dreamgirls (though I'd love for either of those to win too). Just. Not. Little Miss Sunshine. Gah.

Since I believe that LMS is one of the five best films of the year, I'd have no problem with it winning, although I think Th eDeparted and Blood Diamond are better.

fuck, no one has to admit that! That's insanity. It's like Crash...I didn't like either of them, personally, (Babel is three times the film Crash is), but there do exist intelligent, normal people who loved Crash. Just like many of those who like Babel would, and should, never have to say it's not the best picture of the year...if it said or meant something to them that it doesn't to you or I, where is the issue?

All that said, I agree that it's pretty baffling that it looks to be getting a nom...just because it wasn't terribly well recieved, no one seemed to love it, it came out seven ish months after Crash but seemed to be forgotten long before that film, no real box office to speak of, etc. I just can't imagine, logically, why it's sitting in a top five position.

Oh well.

I spoke with a friend last night who loved Babel..loved loved loved. I asked him why. He said that is was a non Hollywood look at some of the problems in the world. He also loved how after the young boy put his gun down and pleaded with the authorities to not hurt his brother, then all the rest of the violence in the film stopped. He was enraptured with the film.

I still don't get it, but apparently there are thoes that just love this film.

I still have to see Dreamgirls, but I'm going to assume that it will be nominated for best picture. That would be a fine win, anything but Babel. ;)

It appears they forgot to bribe the BFCA for the wins. Whoops.

Oh, and btw, did you see Brad Pitt handing an envelope to Harvey Weinstein last night? I did, I have access to a behind teh scenes camera. I knew Babel put the Weinsteins on teh payroll to sway the voters in favour of their film. I think Bob was in the background getting his ass licked by Cate Blanchett last night. It's the only logical explanation.

And seriously, I just h ave that feeling that on Oscar night at about 11:47 pm, there will be a massive amouint of simultaneous puking around the world. My stomach is getting queasy just thinking about it.
