I get the feeling it'll win best picture while Clint wins director, I doubt Dreamgirls will end up challenging it for picture (ofcourse this could change if momentum picks up tremendously and becomes a big blockbuster type hit) and at this point I dont see Letters with both director and picture.
Theres gonna be a split one way or another.

I started this club over at Oscarwatch too, and someone requested a club logo sort of thing. So this is what my crappy self whipped up using lowly Paint. lol. Even if I had Photoshop, I wouldn't know how to use it. Maybe someone else who is a member and skilled in this sort of stuff can create a better one? I was thinking of having it say "The Departed" and then have "Picture" and "Director" hanging off from the "p" and "d" in the word "Departed". But that's too fancy for me and my paint program.
Peace,
Mike.

I can't join. Don't forget...Clint is also a PRODUCER of Letters. He doesn't need Best Director to get his award. And I'm not ready to toss Dreamgirls under the bus yet, either.

Have you been living under a rock?
Apparently she CAN act, since she's been getting awards left and right for her performance in Dreamgirls and raves in just about all reviews, even the negative ones (that point Hudson out as being the shining positive).
Hudson was also far from being an American Idol "reject" as you call her, as she made the top 7 of the country on the show.
I don't care if this is my thread to support The Departed, there's no reason to bash Jennifer Hudson like so.
Peace,
Mike.

I only insult loyal.
She's in a movie that is basically... "The Destiny's Child/Beyonce Story". That is all I get from the trailers.
One movie doesn't mean she's a good actress. I don't think Haley Joel Osment is a good actor, but he was really, really good in the Sixth Sense.
Also, she's not that hefty... I just hate loyal... like I stated earlier.

The point was that you said she can't act, which is obviously not true. One movie doesn't mean she is a great actress, but the one movie she's been in she's winning awards for, so there's nothing to back up you saying she "can't act".
Peace,
Mike.

American Idol reject? Yes.
Can she act? Apparently, yes.
Hefty? Tough call. The run is that she just got fat for Dreamgirls, then lost the weight immediately aftewards. So she might be thinner, but I think she's also fooling people.
Either way, I'm going to try and keep myself aligned with both clubs until I'm found out.

Even if she wins an Oscar for it, it wouldn't say that she can act from her performance in Dreamgirls alone, yet. The role was mainly singing and she obviously has a fantastic voice. But Dreamgirls didn't ask a lot about performing from anyone involved. Critics and Awards tend to reward people just for singing lately, it doesn't say a lot about the quality of the performance. It's the new getting ugly!

I tried to clarify this earlier already with Chipmunky. I was not saying that it is now wholly proven that Jennifer Hudson is a great actress. Far from it. This is not what I was dealing with. Chipmunky said that she "can't act", and seeing as how she has been in only one major motion picture (Dreamgirls) and she is receiving enormous accolades for that performance (awards, reviews glowing, etc), there is nothing, nothing at all, to suggest that Jennifer Hudson "cannot act". In fact, only the opposite has been suggested thus far. So Chipmunky's comment was not only unwarranted, but also incorrect.
Peace,
Mike.

I'm totally with you on this one. All I'm saying is that people shouldn't go the other extreme as well. Nothing in Dreamgirls convinced me she's the next Meryl Streep, either

From Gold Derby:
Quote: Oscar Buzzmeter: 'The Departed' is gaining on 'Dreamgirls'
As of right now, five of our Envelope pundits have piped in on this week's Oscar Buzzmeter, which gives you our experts' latest predix.
"Dreamgirls" used to be far out front for best picture. Now it's merely holding on by a score of three to two. Peter Travers (Rolling Stone) and Jeff Wells (Hollywood-Elsewhere.com) now predict "The Departed" will win, while Clay Smith ("E.T."/ "The Insider"), Edward Douglas (Comingsoon.net) and I still believe "Dreamgirls" will prevail.
Travers and Wells now say Leo DiCaprio will win best actor for "Departed." Smith and I still say O'Toole. Douglas says Forest Whitaker("Last King of Scotland").
Peace,
Mike.
