It can easily beat Ice Age and Over the Hedge...so that leaves Happy Feet and Flushed Away. It's not a lock so it all depends on how those movies do...

In an ideal world A scanner Darkly would be great, it would be nominated, and it would win...and it would make up for Waking Life's snub, but... ;)

Also, Shack, Flushed Away isn't claymation! Although it has the same look as Aardman's previous features.

It's virtual claymation...

As to the Oscar, if they picked the best animated feature so far this year, it would be Over the Hedge by a country mile. However, as we all know, Oscars aren't about what's best.

Have to see what the rest of the year's cartoons bring - I can only hope Flushed Away is even better than Over the Hedge, plus the timing would be good...

Scanner Darkly is going to win it. Period.

Wishing won't make it so.

Why Scanner won't win:

1. It's getting terrible reviews.

2. It stars Keanu Reeves.

3. It's up against Pixar and Aardman.

4. It's rotoscoping.

The reason #4 is important is this: The animated film category is voted on by animators (if I am not mistaken; I don't think this is one of those categories where everyone votes). They are not impressed by rotoscoping (a/k/a "tracing"), which was first done for Betty Boop cartoons in the 20s.

Nah, it's gonna go to Cars or Flushed Away, trust me on this. I was right last year too when I predicted Wallace and Grommit and you guys disagreed with me.

At the beginning of the year, I would've called all of you crazy for doubting Pixar, but after the positive-but-not-extremely-positive reviews it's recieving, I am no longer positive that it will win. Of course it'll be nominated, but Flushed Away is starting to look like it could walk off with the Oscar. In fact, I think I'd put my money on Flushed Away to win if I had to.

I don't know what everybody sees in Happy Feet though. From the teaser I saw, it looks awful. But who knows, that's what I thought about the teaser for The Incredibles and look what happened there.

According to Dabid Poland, it is. To Happy Feet.

Innnnnteresting.

I'd also like to take this time to predict the catagory:

Cars
Flushed Away
Happy Feet
Over the Hedge
A Scanner Darkly

Maybe its just me, but I thought Monster House was a very solid, entertaining film, and is more than worthy of a nomination. I enjoyed Monster House quite a bit.

Renaissance could manage a nomination.

Should be the first year since 2002 where we have 5 nominees (2nd time ever).
