Oh and I cannot belive that Grizzly Man got shut out of best doc, wow. I thought for sure it was gonna get nominated and actually get an easy win, really awful.

What a best picture lineup. As Newsweek said: racism, homosexual love, journalism, government intimidation, terrorism.

No real surprises, aside from Walk The Line being shut out of BP (something that pleases me greatly).

Interestingly, of the BP noms only two have made over $50 million, and none look likely to pass $100 million. When's the last time that happened?

Well, you need to join my BBM won't reach $100 Million club.

1996 methinks. EDIT: No, Jerry Maguire broke 100 Mill

It didn't make the semi-final list a month ago.

1989. Average BP nominee gross was 49 Mill. Dead Poet's stalled at 95 Mill.

Really? Is there any reason for that other then the usual?

Only two of the movies have a chance at 100m, Munich which chances are slim and Brokeback which I think has a great chance. Brokeback just like MDB will have a great February.

There is still confusion on Sound Editing. Seems Narnia actually has it instead of Geisha.

Xiayun, I think it's funny that after a year of arguments, Williams ends up getting 2 nominations ;)

I'm thrilled that Munich received BP and BD noms,so much for those who were confident Munich would not be nominated for BP.

BBM with 8 noms. Isn't 8 nominations pretty low for the film with the most Oscar noms?

I will edit if Memoirs does indeed have that nom instead of Chronicles.

Nominations: 8
Brokeback Mountain

Nominations: 6
Crash
Good Night, and Good Luck

Nominations: 5
Munich
Capote
Memoirs of a Geisha
Walk the Line

Nominations: 4
The Constant Gardener
Pride and Prejudice
King Kong
Chronicles of Narnia

Nominations: 3
War of the Worlds
Cinderella Man

Nominations: 2
A History of Violence
Hustle and Flow
Syriana
North Country
Transamerica

Has there ever been a year as spread out as this one?

when was the last time 11 films had 4 or more nominations?

:) That's 45 total for him now, right? How many do you think he will end up?

American Beauty lead with 8 I think.

I think he'll get 2 or 3 more nominations.

This will probably be his last win. I do expect him to win for either of these. It could go to Memoirs which would probably be better but it could be a Munich make-up-award-for-not-winning-anything-else-big.

Well will have to see what happens in the weeks to come, like I said it's chances are slim, it's gonna do much better now with a best picture nod, without it the movie wouldve stopped at around 50m. So hopefully it gets a respectful amount of theaters again and pushes it's way to something over 70m.

I copied straight from the Variety email list, and haven't seen it any other way.
