Yes, Munich is seriously baffling me.

I think it will have a much stronger showing at the Oscars. It might end up doing some Pianist style surprises!

Aside from that, I actually thought Makeup and hair in Brokeback was oustanding and one of the film's strongest technical points. Gues they just go for the big tech heavy epics and blockbusters. Then gain, they did include Capote

Lecter, you mentioned M$B. But, did Eastwood get on Director lists without the movie being nominated for anything else?

Hmmph. Anyone with time - how often does a movie not on the BAFTA list get nominated for BP?

I am making the guess that if you can say one movie of the year has had campaign problems, it has been Munich.

There has been too many articles in recent days about Universal fucking it up.

The articles increase awareness...

...and the ballots aren't due yet, are they?

Looks like Spielberg didn't lie about not wanting to campaign it.

Eastwood didn't, but Swank, Freeman and the screenplay appaeared on the longlist.

Good to see Batman Begins getting some consideration, at least the BAFTA lot aren't elitist assholes. Good lists overall, though I'm surprised Kiss Kiss Bang Bang couldn't even make a list of fifteen for adapted screenplay

Is it really adapted?

I know it was inspired by the Johnny Gossamer novel, but I still had my doubts... I guess I'll have to change my predictions afterall..

(I hope Gwyneth manages at least a BAFTA nom for "Proof" )

I think it's original, not adapted.

Yeah, I remember it getting some critics' award for original screenplay.. and that got me convinced it was original...

Maybe this is the reason why it didn't make the long list..? Category confusion? Do they say which movie is original/adapted before the voting process?

I personally agree it should be in the running as an original, but if the Academy & BAFTAs both saw Adaptation as an... adaptation when it too was more inspired by the spirit of the source text than simply adapted from it I don't see why this would be treated any differently. They're weird like that.

http://film.guardian.co.uk/news/story/0 ... 71,00.html

"the preview DVD sent to the academy's members is unplayable on machines used in the UK. As a result the majority of Bafta's 5,000 voters will not have seen the film, due to be released in Britain on January 27, and can hardly be expected to recommend it for acclaim.

Sara Keene at Premier PR, the company coordinating Munich's Bafta campaign, blamed the mistake on human error at the laboratory where the DVDs were encrypted. "Someone pushed the wrong button," she said. "It was a case of rotten bad luck." She insisted that the film's distributor, Universal, was not at fault."

Hmmm, this "someone" probably is already looking for a new job.

Universal's Oscar promotion this year will be written in a textbook of what-not-to-do (or how-to-screw-it-up) tutorial.

Just as a side thought now, Squid and The Whale didn't get on the longlist? Odd, because I thought it'd be one of the frontrunners to win it.
