 Re: 2014 Contenders Discussion
It came out in March! Why could the Academy not forget this one like they do all the other well reviewed limited releases that come out in the beginning of the year?

 Re: 2014 Contenders Discussion
The Academy forgetting about movies that come out before October is totally not even relevant anymore anyway.

Grand Budapest is a great movie and deserves to be in the conversation. I'm very happy it has managed to gain some momentum.

No. It is the 4th-strongest contender at the moment. How are Birdman and Gone Girl not ahead of it? I know I am biased, but isn't Birdman 2 or three in the race? Not sure how Budapest being four would effect that.

Birdman is ahead of it and so is Selma, I suppose. And obviously Boyhood.

And Gone Girl. And I think The Theory of Everything is also, but I know you don't think so, and you are probably right. But I just have a real feeling it is.

 Re: 2014 Contenders Discussion
They both are not. Gone Girl didn't get on the AFI Top 11 list and it missed a BP nom at the Golden Globes. The Theory of Everything missed a Director nom at the Globes and is a much weaker contender in the technical categories. The Grand Budapest Hotel is well ahead of both.

 Re: 2014 Contenders Discussion
Selma is still 100% fresh at RT with 79 reviews, and a 9.0 average. A 91 average with 15 100s at MC. Will be pretty crazy if this gets snubbed, with that subject matter.

Not just crazy, but it will bring the racism question to a whole different level.

 Re: 2014 Contenders Discussion
Is it set that Boyhood will get six noms (BP, BD, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, Original Screenplay, Editing) or does it have a shot at anything else? I kinda doubt that it will miss any of those six, but I also strongly doubt it will get anything more. The Grand Budapest Hotel, Birdman and potentially Gone Girl, The Imitation Game and The Theory of Everything will get more noms.

Might get a Best Original Song nomination, too.

Yeah, those 6 look pretty set, and it could end up winning 5 of them.

 Re: 2014 Contenders Discussion
It is a shame A Most Wanted Man is completely, completely absent this awards season. Particularly deserving of a bit of recognition its adapted screenplay.

I think the Theory of Everything is ahead of Whiplash and Nightcrawler. I'm probably wrong though.

 Re: 2014 Contenders Discussion
I believe The Theory of Everything is in fourth or fifth. Ahead of Gone Girl, for sure.
