"Christopher Plummer may be on stage tonight, and thats only because I hear he likes to wander"

I really loved the way they put this show together, it was just so smoothe and tightly formed. Brian Grazer made it much more of an experience. From really lame stuff the last few years, I liked the let's give it an AFI look, and how each nominee was given a mini doc. The set was awesome, and the band they kept cutting too was really different and inspired from years past. There were some technical issues in the beginning, and cirque put a really good spin on it, I loved how they made it seem like Cary Grant bursted from the screen, but I'm sure seeing it in person would have been much much better.

Billy Crystal. The opening movie was funny, the song monatge wasn't bad, but 9 films is too bloated, and the music was way too loud, they needed to be lower so we could here the lyics, the Jonah Hill joke was hilarious! But he really hit his stride as the show went on. Considering he only had half as much prep time then usual, he was still better than the last 4 hosts. That Scorcese and Nick Nolte joke in the "what are they thinking" may have been the funniest thing ever in the oscars. I think My favorite new joke had to have been when he banged Melissa McCarthy back stage.

Presenters It may be just me, but I thought everyone nailed it. Chris Rock, RDJ, Stiller and Stone, Will Farrell, Firth and his Mama Mia joke, even Bullock speaking Mandarin with a German Accent all brought big laughs. For some reason even Jlo and Diaz, and Jolie's awkward moments were not eye rollers.

Speeches This has to be the best year for speeches ever. No one went over time, a lot of people made jokes even the lesser categories that made the whole experience pleasant to watch. After last year, there was no place but up for the Oscars to go, luckily they did a great job considering loosing there Director and Host in the middle of it all. I still hope they can get Murphy for next year, but I'd welcome Crystal back again, he can still bring the goods. I thought we were in trouble when Crystal didn't have a monologue at all and the song montage was hindered by bad sound, but what a show it turned out to be.

Streep winning is really a shame and just shows again that the Academy is corrupt and possibl racist. Black actresses can get awards - as long as it is for supporting and in funny roles (and don't bring up the ONE exception). How many awards did Weinstein get? 10? He even got Documentary. Oscar voters really are whores.

Except that Streep was actually better than Davis.

No, she wasn't. She just took on a role that cried Oscar! Everyone says how challenging it was to portray Thatcher when in fact it was the far easier role. Viola Davis had nothing in this role and made so much of it. Streep did just what she was supposed to do.

speaking of ratings....I read an analysis somewhere that the rise of Twitter has made these award shows (and live TV in general) more of must-see TV. People don't enjoy watching these shows by themselves; but they do enjoy watching it while being on Twitter. It adds an extra level of commentary you don't get. And unlike regular TV, the only way to enjoy stuff like this is watching it live. You can't DVR it.

True that. That's why I always enjoyed doing this live on these forums, for the same reason. I also tweeted my comments this time and read other tweets about it.

I actually agree with this. Watched about half the show last night (obviously not live and after reading comments here) and it was better than most made it out to be.

Oh and finally got to see Chastain - damn hot!

That Diaz/JLo thing was nearly a showkiller for me. Classic example of why it's best to leave the comedy to the people who are paid to not be funny.

Didn't think RDJ was that funny either. Chris Rock basically said "And the black man be playin' donkeys and zebras!" He just sounds naturally funny, but it's not the funniest joke.

Was Bullock meant to be funny? The audience was like "Haha... heh... so is she really speaking Mandarin?"

The joke was that her Mandarin was German.

It wasn't that it was funny (it was because it was her) but I liked the way they actually did something to say how all countries watch the oscars (doing a different language in yet a different accent.) The only thing that wold have made it even better was if they got someone like Penelope Cruz or Javier Bardem to do it.

Apparently JLo and Diaz were improvising because JLo's dress fell apart and her tits were just hanging out.
