She actually won.

Don't know why Loyal's thing says otherwise.

The one thing that REALLY bothered me was the stupid ADD camerawork during the In Memoriam segment. That was very tacky.

I thought that was horrible, I couldn't even catch some of the names. I also didn't like the former actress and actors talking to the nominees. It just didn't work. Also I like the musical numbers it reminds me of the Billy Crystal days which were the best Oscar shows. The ratings might be up because of Ledger. I have a feeling people turned it to see that.

I can't believe Winslet didn't thank Ricky Gervais.

one of the questions in the press room was about Ricky Gervais. She laughed.

I thought it was unusual when, was it Michael Douglas(?), heaped praise on Frank Langella's performance as Richard Nixon, saying that Langella's performance was above all other portrayals of the former President, while standing nearby Anthony Hopkins who also played Nixon once.

I really hated that train wreck of the clips from former Best Picture winners mashed up with the current nominees. Horrible, and if I depended on the Best Picture clips to fill me in on movies that I need to catch up on, I can't. Which film was that? I don't know.

well read this whole thing, and no one mentioned what happened when Ledger won? Only comments were, he won.

Like who accepted, how did the crowd respond, what did anyone say, etc...........

It was a memorial acceptance by Ledger's surviving family, Father, Mother and Sister.

FUCK YEAH!!!

AR RAHMAN DESERVES IT!

Although this isn't his best work, I am glad he won two awards. Indian music rules.

Worst broadcast ever. Seriously, it was terrible. Bad musical numbers, hardly any clips of nominated films, hardly any humor. I predicted worst ratings ever (especially since hardly any TV viewers had seen any of the BP nominees). Anyone see ratings yet?

EDIT: OK, I was wrong, they were up 6% from last year's record low. Still terrible.

God, what a journey it has been to see Kate Winslet win awards this season after being perpetually ignored for such consistently great performances, and to finally win that Oscar! It's crazy to think that this is the FIRST time Winslet has won a Golden Globe or an Oscar. Many friends of mine who don't follow the Oscars as obsessively as I do were like "really? This is her first win? How is that possible!?"

Such a deserving win for The Reader and also recognition for Revolutionary Road, two fantastic performances (when I think about it, what a great year for her to win: two really great performances that were both close to her heart). It makes me so happy to rewatch her Oscar win and to know that her beautiful smile and her 'thank yous' layered with such incredulity will now be in the Oscar montages for years to come.

Golden Globe (Supp. Actress): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TugfQPMA3Zw
Golden Globe (Actress): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-G0nHODtc0 (such a shocker for everyone, plus the terrific Rev Road theme playing in the background; a great one to watch)
BAFTA (Actress): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pp3t1L9bGJM
Oscar (Actress): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NA1E8FHw7LI

Peace,
Mike

juicy bits about Daniel and Jack

http://goldderby.latimes.com/awards_gol ... ticle.html

Quote:
A source close to the Oscarcast revealed interesting info to Gold Derby but would only speak anonymously because he feared that his future relationship with the telecast might be jeopardized. Apparently, there were two reasons Day-Lewis didn't show up at the Oscars. Our source said he "wouldn't do the group thing" and he didn't want "to single out one person's performance for endorsement," referring to the way each of the five past winners focused attention upon one current nominee.

Quote:
This year, the Oscars telecast was plagued with past winners who "didn't want to do the group thing," our source says. Curiously, it seemed to be more of a problem in the supporting categories than lead. In some cases, the stars' refusals weren't due to ego but because they "couldn't wrap their heads around the concept" of a group presentation.

However, the latter didn't seem to be the case with Jack Nicholson, a past winner of both categories (lead for "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and "As Good as It Gets," supporting for "Terms of Endearment"). As Gold Derby reported earlier, he wasn't asked to participate in the group thing for the supporting slot, which would've been great if he'd accepted. Imagine Nicholson discussing what he thought of Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker in "The Dark Knight," a role he portrayed in "Batman."

But our source says that Jack was invited to do the group thing in the lead race but declined, informing Oscarcast producers, "I present alone."
