In about 10 months, I'll be happy if at least 2 of them are still in contention, heh.
Really looks like a year for Winslet and DiCaprio to win at last! Feb. 24th... You had The Reader... Bravo!

Now I'm seriously thinking a sweep of 9 Oscars is possible. Definitely at least 6. Best Picture: DONE Best Director: LOCK Best Ad. Screenplay: LOCK Cinematography: Has a solid chance. Main competition is maybe The Dark Knight? I think it can take it. Film Editing: It can take it. Score: Locked up pretty much Sound Editing: Hmm... I wouldn't put it past it but this and Sound Mixing are its weakest Sound Mixing: See above Song: LOCK So, 5 of them pretty much locked up. Another 2 can easily be swept in. The last 2 are toss-ups. So, yeah 6-8 seems to be a reasonable prediction if you ask me.

Song is LOCKED? I figured the "Slumdog" tunes would split votes and Peter Gabriel would sweep in for the win.

Re: Well...the 2008 Contenders Discussion Thread
It still kinda blows my mind how Springsteen was not nominated. Why weren't there 5 nominees? Weren't there as many songs eligible as any year?

I think 5 is a solid number. Pic/Dir/Screenplay, plus one tech, plus one music. But if starts going crazy in wins in precursors, I'll bump it to 7.

Re: Well...the 2008 Contenders Discussion Thread
I'll say
Locked: Picture Director Adapted Screenplay Editing
Extremely likely: Score Cinematography
Questionable: Sound Mixing Song
Probably losing: Sound Editing (Wall-E's a Sound Editing monster)
7 overall for me, with the first 6 and one of the questionable ones

I hope Boyle and the team won't try to fake surprise when they win BD/BP...

If the history is anything, Slumdog will either win zero or both sound categories. No film that was nominated for both sound categories had ended up with just one of the two.

I don't see how WALL-E can lose in the sound categories.

I was then going to say when a BP winner got nominated for both sounds, it always wins both, but Braveheart disproved that too.

The real fact is no film has won mixing and lost editing when nominated for both. When there's a split the mixing isn't nominated for Editing. Braveheart and TTT both won editing and lost mixing

It's all void.
I'm pretty sure WALL-E will win both. And God knows it deserves it.

Re: Well...the 2008 Contenders Discussion Thread
Just found out - in the history of the Oscars, there has only been ONE occasion on which a BP nominee lost Best Visual Effects after having been nominated (that of course excludes films that lost Visual Effects to another BP nominee).
Meaning that Benjamin Button is pretty much locked.
