Post Little Miss Sunshine will win Best Picture thread - 6 DAYS!
a) Early release date, excellent WOM and solid box-office run.

b) Very passionate supporters, was thought to be on the outside of the race, picked it's ass up in the end.

c) Is strangely kicking ass everywhere now, in the most important time period.

d) It doesn't need Best Director.

If it pulls the upset on Dreamgirls at the GGs, and Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris get a Director's nod, COULD THE IMPOSSIBLE HAPPEN? Really, it's probably the film closest to Crash in a lot of ways this year.

Now let this impossible thought and thread completley diminish the Babel winning thoughts. Let's think happy.

Okay, people are getting carried away. Little Miss Sunshine comparable to Crash? Give me a break. Not even Babel is the same as Crash, but the comparison is at least a little more suitable. People need to stop comparing everything that isn't the front runner to win the Oscar to Crash. lol.

Peace,
Mike.

It IS the closest film to Crash, but this year lacks a Brokeback Mountain to push it to a win.

So, no. Still Dreamgirls vs. Departed.

ok. the thing is Crash wasn't really winning anything (aside from that SAG) and was showing up on, at best, half of critics awards and what not.

LMS and Babel have been showing growing strength from the day the Globe nods were announced. And as opposed to Crash (although some critics may not be so hot on babel) both LMS and Babel are better films than Crash.

Crash was a complete Oscar anomoly. there was no precedent for it and it should rarely be used for future comparison. Can we just forget that it ever won?

All I know is that is one of the widest-open races ever.

It's so nice to see such a lovely, thoughtful comedy like Little Miss Sunshine get this recognition, especially since peope at these awards are usually quick to pass on comedies.

I guess I should be eating my words right now! I take back what I said. With a PGA win, who knows what is in store now!!

Way to go LMS!!!

Peace,
Mike.

Can Little Miss Sunshine get nominated for Score? Because I really loved it in that movie, it's one of my favorites of the year.

The Oscars have ignored great comedies for years. If they decide to break their fast to award Little Miss Sunshine, I'll burn Park City to the ground.

If LMS can get the director, editing, and song nom, then I feel it'll really be unstoppable. If it misses director but still do well on other categories, then I still think it has a chance, especially if it wins WGA Original over The Queen. But if it only gets the 4 noms we've predicting until recently, then the PGA win will be seen as more of an indication on other films' vulnerability instead of its own strength.

Even though I'm sticking with The Departed as my bet, it would be nice to see an underdog like LMS take top honours from the likes The Departed and Babel – two high-wattage, Hollywood heavyweights.

I am very happy it got nominated for Best Picture. But personally, I don't think it will win. Here is the reason why:

It didn't get nominated for Editing.

Okay, some of you might not think this is important, but editing is one of the most important tools for movie. If the editing is bad, it will ruin the movie. Besides, no movie in 26 years has won picture w/o being nominated for editing. that is how Brokeback lost last year.

Bump

I do feel LMS's win chances hinge a lot on tomorrow. The rise can begin...

And another guild win for the LMS corner!

I'd like to point out that in the 13 year history of all 3 being around, only one film has ever won the PGA and SAG and WGA, and that was, well, American Beauty. And we all know what happened there.

Little Miss Sunshine is looking very strong. I actually think it's going to win now, through and through... I feel Departed has been behind in the momentum and passion of things, from losing the GG Drama, to no Leo or Jack nominated, to losing the PGA and SAG. Sunshine is running as strong as Crash was.

It needs to win the WGA from The Queen for me to even consider joining.

Call me in two weeks.

LMS now has producers/actors in its back pocket. If Babel/departed splits some votes, LMS might be able to sneak in.

I'm on board :)

What the Hell, I'm in. I am pretty sure Departed won't bag BP and BD, I don't want Babel to win, so LMS it is

Months old conversation piece but...

After seeing As Good As It Gets, I still think Little Miss Sunshine is still nearly unique in its nomination... AGAIG is a light comedy and film, but I don't think it is ever hilarious like LMS. I think Little Miss Sunshine is the first film in maybe decades to be nominated that would be counted in my books as a full-on laugher... I mean I don't lie when I say this, I laughed as much in LMS as I did in nearly any film this year.

Or maybe I just laughed harder than most at LMS and laughed less than most at Gets.

Not joining this but:

When I saw American Beauty again recently, it hit me how similar this was to that movie. Also, Little Miss Sunshine is the only "American" movie nominated for BP this year, which may help it a lot as well.
