 Best Musical/Comedy
I always love this category, moreso than anything else at the Globes. It's fun to see a genre that has no chance at the Oscars praised in some way, given it's nomination list.
I see:
Dreamgirls(lock)
Little Miss Sunshine(lock)
Cars
Running With Scissors
Marie Antoneitte
Dreamgirls and Little Miss Sunshine should be able to make it pretty easily, not much explanation needed there.
Cars got a lot less praise than Nemo or The Incredibles, but I think it was more of a case of critics finally picking on a Pixar, and by the end of the year they'll still warm up enough to narrowly give it a nomination. The box-office helps a lot too, it's obvious people really like this movie. It's the weakest choice, but I'll stand by it.
Running With Scissors on first thought seems a bit too close to Little Miss Sunshine with the dysfunctional family thing, but I think with the cast and screenplay acclaim, both movies will be able to get in.
Marie Antoneitte I'm betting on performing exactly like Phantom or The Producers, where it gets pretty trashed, but it grabs a nomination anyways as a light choice.

The Devil Wears Prada should be a decent bet for that, I suppose. Even more likely than Cars in my eyes.

Unlike Phantom or Producers, Marie Antoneitte will be released before December, and bad reviews, if the early buzz turned out to be the case, will kill its chance at Globes. Like Golden Satellite and BFCA, late releases normally benefit at Globes if they have been perceived as award possibilities since GG tries to be inclusive and be a "oscar predictor" instead.

If Borat can become the phenomenon David Poland thinks it is....
Flushed Away could play if it's good, which is really likely.

Oh my, I didn't realize Marie Antoneitte was a musical, too.
I think that makes it my least anticipated movie of the year, by far.

It's not a musical.

Well then why compare it to Phantom and Producers? Both musicals! It threw me off!

Dreamgirls will win. I think that if Stranger Then Fiction is as good as early word says, it could also get a nomination.

The only way for Dreamgirls not to win the Globe is if it's not released.

Unless Dreamgirls completely sucks, it's a lock to win here.

Is The Queen considered comedy? That will certainly make this category more lively.

Yes, it's a satire, isn't it?

Yeah, it seems to be a film that can be put in either category. In that case, I'd go with Comedy, even if winning Best Actress Musical/Comedy for Mirren wouldn't be as significant as winning it against Winslet in Drama.
Venus/O'Toole could go comedy too, I guess.

The trailer makes it look way too serious for Comedy. I doubt the HFPA will let them bend the rules like that.

I really never thought about it being comedy either, but it came to mind when I read the quotes on metacritic about how funny the film is.

I'm sure there's plenty of crackling british wit sprinkled throughout. Still not enough for a Comedy placement. Besides, then Mirren would have Hollywood Goddess Meryl Streep to compete with, who has Actress sewn up every which way but loose.

No, but wasn't it adapted from a play/musical?
Which was it?
