There's no way you can consider Jake Gyllenhaal supporting for Jarhead, so my guess is he's actually nominated for Brokeback Mountain and it's a mistake?

Hmm some interesting nominees, but it's only the Golden Satellite awards so there's nothing much to say.

in the deep was written specifically for crash?? or are the rules here different than the oscars?

No, because the nominees are all over the places. You got the usual suspects, but you also have some crazy ones. Edward Norton in Kingdom of Heaven? Sisterhood of Traveling Pants? And I love Best Picture for Kung Fu Hustle!

Yeah, Jake's one was a typo.

Narnia for Best Animated Feature!

And somehow Chris Columbus got a best director nod, one category that they don't separate into three different categories.

Goofy. Really goofy on a lot of levels.

Gotta love those Rent nominations!

But my favorite is the fact that DANNY HUSTON is the only acting nominee from Constant Gardener.

The Bird York song apparently is original, according to the Film Experience, which released the eligible songs for the new bakeoff system they have for the Oscars.

I posted them in the Best SOng thread, somewhere in the forum.

HAHAHAHA wait... I don't see any The Producers.

Gotta love the Golden Satellites... the bastard child of the Golden Globes.

True.

I know there's something oddly wrong with the nominations. I mean, historically they've been odd... but I guess it's the disappearance of those four late in the game movies.

When are these awards again gonna be held?

They seem more open minded and less political (as in hollywood politics, not real politics) than the academy awards, even though I don't agree with many of the choices. It's refreshing to see Norton considered, too bad it won't mean anything.

Okay, my comments:

These awards are funny, as usual.

Sin City sweeped the technicals. Seven noms overall!

Memoirs of a Geisha got 8 noms, around what I expected.

Narnia as animated? Seriously, what is that???? Are they ST00PEED?

No visual effects nom for Potter, but for KoH and Sin City? That is dumb.

No art direction noms for Potter and Charlie?

But Kiss Kiss Bang Bang got four acting noms...great!

Crash snubbed here once again...

Got to love all the recognition for Sin City. Also, Ed Norton for supporting in Kingdom of Heaven, the best role in that movie and definitely one of the best supporting performances of this year. These nominations bring to mind just how stunning a production Kingdom of Heaven was (technically) and it would not be out of place to see art direction and costume nominations come Oscar time (Troy anyone?).

Glad to see Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang getting some noms, and I'm REALLY glad to see Mickey Rourke getting nominated, in what was one of the best performances of the year as Marv in Sin City!

Great for Rachel McAdams!

Amy Adams! She really deserves it. Next to Reese Witherspoon, she's given the best performance of the year by an actress.

I can't believe the terrible score to The Constant Gardener got a nom... :nope:

No love for Fantastic Four. BOOOOOOoooooooooooo.....

Shopgirl is a comedy?

I'm psyched Walk on Water got a nod somewhere, at least.

Kung Fu broke into the non-import categories.

Gong Li is definately looking to be the supporting nom (in the Oscars) over Yeow at this point.

No Jeffrey Wright for Broken Flowers?

Great Line-Up for best actors, drama, I see.

Real shocker to see Ferrara make it up there for what is really considered an age-target audiance. I'm glad, because I think she's actually an excellent actress.

Imo, with Enron still getting some recognition, it shows it hasn't fallen off the radar with its early release. Look for it in the Oscars as the fifth slot.

Whats unfortunate is that Hoskins didn't seem to get any notice for his supporting work in Mrs. Henderson Presents. I really thought there would be as much buzz around him as Dench at this point.

Nothing for My Summer of Love. *sighs*

I don't know, I think Hoskins could still get a nom. The supporting actor nom seems kind of dull, and Hoskins has only been nominated once, for Mona Lisa.

Rent
Shopgirl

Walk the Line
Kung Fu Hustle

**********************************

Questions

- why is musical thrown in with comedy - on something like walk the line, isn't it alot closer to drama

- nothing for rumor has it - was it shown or is that a bad sign.

- On the Family Stone - think they had 3/4 acting nominees, GREAT, but the movie couldn't get into the above - bad or no big deal.

- are all these movies fully shown for early awards like this and are the films the final version?
