He was offered the Queenan role, and had to drop out from playing him to direct The Good Shepherd. I'm still not sure DeNiro would have fit for Costello like you guys think. He has an inherently soft voice, and I see him as a much more laid back mobster kind of character. Costello was laid back, but also a very hardened, confident character, and so on. Anyways, it's just personal opinion and gut. I think it would have been cool if DeNiro waited to direct and stuck with playing Queenen, since it would have been sweet to have Nicholson the gang chief vs. DeNiro the police chief. Peace, Mike.

Just because she's a little classier and older? Yeah, she was good, but NO ONE OUTDID STREEP THIS YEAR (except maybe Cruz, but maybe I'm biased because her role in Volver reminds me of Johansson in Lost in Translation in that her beauty keeps the movie together in some of the slower scenes, even when she's not at the top of her game...). UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. In the SUPPORTING category, I might be able to agree with you there.

He was absolutely fantastic in that film and his win was very deserved.
