I think that is utterly the stupidest thing rule the Oscars have.

Yeah, specially when it doesn't apply to the technical categories (John Williams, ... ) :|

Babel is still not in, IMO. Cold Mountain scored eight noms and was still snubbed Oscar time It had much more going for it too with quite solid box-office and 90% COTC at RT. Babel will score a couple of acting nods and a screenplay nod, maayyyybe Director, but not Picture.

Huh?

What Mike said basically... plus, we're talking about an "important" ensemble movie with huge support in both the acting branch and techicals (Score, Cinematography and Editing in particular)- even more than Cold Mountain. I'd say it's more than a lock than The Queen at this point... ok, maybe not, but it's in.

Looks, however, like Babel may be taking the Crash route in terms of marketing and FYC-ing.

An ad in The Dallas Morning News this morning for Babel read, in Crash-esque fashion, "No film moved you more."

I will certainly take Letters' odd in foreign language; and Hudson tied for the last place at 1:10? Gotta be kidding me. I'll also take the field over Whitaker with the current lines; I don't think he should be more than 1:1. As expected, Mirren and Dreamgirls are the most overwhelming favorites.

Odds confuse me. Is there a way of ranking them from best to worst odds, rather than alphabetically?

Does that mean it's likely to win, so there's low risk involved?

Exactly. Like for Mirren, you will only win a dollar for every $10 you bet, but it may still increase to 11:1 if enough people believe that's a really safe $1 win.
