It's more of a dramedy.

Well what do you know?
http://www.hollywood-elsewhere.com/
Quote: The Envelope's Tom O'Neil is reporting that Miramax strategists yesterday decided to not submit Venus star Peter O'Toole in the Golden Globe competition for a Best Actor in a Comedy category, apparently out of concern that Sacha Baron Cohen's Borat performance might ace him out. So they've entered O'Toole into the Best Actor in a Drama category instead.
To which I can only wonder why Miramaxers thought O'Toole should have been in the Best Actor in a Comedy slot in the first place. Venus is amusing here and there -- arch, whimsical, spirited -- but there's no way anyone in a sober state of mind would call O'Toole's performance even somewhat comedic. Venus is a drama with fizz and bittersweet spritz, but O'Toole's playing a withered actor who's getting closer and closer to death, and yet is clinging to life all he can through his feelings of lust and affection for a young girl. A touching situation but hardly a "funny" one.
O'Neil mentions that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's eligibility committee might not agree with the switch and move O'Toole back to comedy, although it usually defers to the preference of the contender. This is insane.

He'll end up winning the Globe for best actor for comedy, but then again that was a foregone conclusion.
That should be enough momentum for him to slide in, but he could get squeezed out by Ryan Gosling (assuming the other 4 are Forrest, Peter, Leo, and Will). I wonder how long they will wait to pick a movie for Leo? Departed has the box office, but Blood Diamond is considered the stronger performance.

I'd rather repeatedly beat you with my awesome Oscar.
Take THAT, Cary Grant!

He will win the GG.
He's not a shoo-in for an Oscar nod, though.
I think we'll have to look at the guilds and SAG to see where they go with this (though I have a feeling he's getting a SAG nom). I see Gosling faring well at the guilds.

It would brilliant if he got a Nom. Wonder if he'd keep up the Borat persona at the ceremony if he did.

Is there actually a Holocaust Denial Conference or did he just pick up the joke from last night's Jon Stewart?

That's the problem with getting all my news from Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. I never know what to believe and what not to.

Denying the holocaust or Borat being the guest of honor?
Cohen's inability to go more than a minute without saying something tasteless. I wish I had those kinda balls.
