Clint!

Big score for Michael Sheen, I think. He needed a win.

Go Germany!

ANother no show for Departed, while United 93 gets a lot of help from today's awards.

I knew it! United 93 is picking up steam with the critics awards; it was one of the best reviewed films of the year.

My favourite wins:

Director: Paul Greengrass, "United 93"

Cinematography: Emmanuel Lubezki, "Children of Men"

Peace,
Mike.

Sacha!

Mirren, Sheen, Whitaker and Hudson are everywhere... I want some variety

Oh, and congrats to Letters - another lock for a BP nom. Looks like the 5th nominee will be between Babel and Little Miss Sunshine...

Yay for Clint! NBR, AFI & LAFCA - hat trick!

Good to see Lives of Others win the Best Foreign Language pic - I'm really looking forward to seeing that - & glad to see Michael Sheen get recognised because his performance has seemed to me to be slightly overlooked in the rush to praise Mirren.

I expected a win for CoM in Cinematography. It looks like the kind of work that everyone appreciates but the Academy.

And Sacha, whoo!

Good stuff. Lubezki is so overdue an Oscar win. Maybe this will finally be his year?

Looks like Letters is the real deal, getting close to being a 3-way race for best picture ( Dreamgirls, Departed, and Letters ). Ofcourse Queen is almost a lock for a best picture nod, but it's basically a Capote or Good Night when it comes to it's chances at winning.

I was just about to say...

After the upset with New World (it was his), he really deserves a win this year. This just assuming Children of Men is beautiful. It will be. He always delivers the best cinematography.

Nice to see Gore's Doc getting an award.

Children of Men for cinematography was a complete no brainer, its miles ahead of the rest in that area.

Yeah, the cinematography and editing in Children Of Men are pretty phenomenal. I just hope it can sneak into other areas, which is getting increasingly difficult.

Is Letters From Iwo Jima officially the strongest contender right now after today?

Cool to see an unexpected emergence in Letters (which I'm totally pumped for now, btw).

This whole saga with Letters could spark a new hollywood craze of directing 2 oscar bait movies per year just in case one doesn't cut the mustard.

I'm sure Letters from Iwa Jima is a great film and I can't wait to see it, but I really, really want Scorsese to get his due. I could see people rallying for him much more if the main competition was Clint rather then Dreamgirls, as Clint has won against him before.

Looks like the main BP nominee contenders are really down to Iwo Jima, The Departed, LMS, U93, Dreamgirls and The Queen. I am very sure that five of them will make it. One won't...the question is which one? I am thinking Little Miss Sunshine as of now.

Babel has an equal, if not better, shot at a nom as United 93.

Nope, it doesn't :)
