Quinceañera It's going to win, too.
What's worse, Brick was completely snubbed, even in this category!
It was absolutely one of the best films of the year and unlike Little Miss Sunshine, The Painted Veil, A Prairie Home Companion etc, a genuinely indie film.

The ISAs are bullshit. They nominated many films that are hardly independent. LMS, The Painted Veil, etc. might as well be studio films. They really missed the boat not nominating Hard Candy, Brick, or even The Notorious Bettie Page.

Brick was considered a 2005 release and nominated in two categories last year (John Cassavetes and Producers Award). It was actually favored to win the John Cassavetes Award.

Y'know that thought came to my head right after I posted that but I didn't edit it... Good call.

Yeah, but Quinceanera was the worst piece of conservative trash of the year: http://www.worldofkj.com/reviews/Galia/Quinceanera.php
And its nice to hear Brick got some recognition last year. It wasn't my favorite, but now that I hear the budget (under 500,000) I realize the cast came up with quite a bit on limited resources. They were pretty creative about it, especially the score and cinematography

Conservative trash made by gay porn directors.

Quote: Carlos gets involved with a newly arrived gay couple who spend their time having parties where their fellow rich, white, gay neighbors chat about Latino boys like cuts of bacon from the corner live butchery. It's where the Adonis-like men descend from upon gentrified high to wreak the havoc of their Roman decadence on the blue-collar good people of the Los Angeles barrios Echo Park. When the couple experiences marital woes, the entire neighborhood apparently feels their callous wrath. Their names matter not, as they are stereotypes so positively enforced by all their dinner party guests who act, look, and discuss all the same issues in the same petty, self-indulgent way. Don’t forget the lisps.

Chatting about Latino boys like cuts of bacon does take on a new fetish... er... meaning after learning of the director's esteemed past.

What's most mind-boggling is the utter lack or respect, or even nuanced understanding these guys have considering they spent their whole careers exploring themes of sexual orientation and preference.
Christian, we gotta take over Sundance. I still can't believe how much they liked this piece of garbage over there.

Right. The Sundance thing is much more puzzling. I remember when I went to see Quinceanera and there were only like 10 other people in the theatre (who probably knew the director's name from video boxes or something)... strange how this won... the audience award, right?

AND the Grand Jury Prize. It was the first movie to do that in at least a decade (I don't feel like going further back).
You're closer to Park City than me, Christian. RUN!

Bwahahahaha! You hated it too? Do people really confuse aesthetic and content that much by now? Dear God!
I should have known you wouldn't like it, seeing as how you're to date the only other person in these forums who has seen (and appreciated) Moolaade. You've got sophisticated selection processes.

I didn't see it. But I'll take the word of anyone that's seen Moolaade.
