 I've seen Flags. Lets Discuss
I want to leave my review for the 4th podcast but I'm willing to discuss my opinion of the film in terms of the oscars. i'm not really part of the oscar crowd but i'll try my best.

Let me rephrase......... if both TCM: The Beginning and Flags were up for best picture, which would win if you were the only Academy member?

Is it better than Saving Private Ryan?
Is it compelling enough to keep a viewer interested or is it boring?
How would you compare its oscar chances next to Million $ Baby and Mystic River?

Did it make you cry? tear? Has Ryan Phillippe finally managed to act as if he wasn't a snob?

i think its definetely getting nominated if thats what you mean. Difficult to say who the best actor in the film was. Once you see it, you'll understand.

consistent and strong though towards the end, in my opinion, falters a bit but probably only for me. bit too much melodrama by everyone.

as a movie, no. but SPR has got nothing on its sea landing scene.

You want my opinion or crowd opinion? Not to say its different but i'll be fair about it. not everyone agreed with me. the film in my opinion is a mix bag of both.

A tough question. In some ways, its stronger than the other 2 and in some ways, its not. but it should expect an oscar nomination. it follows the formula and falls i nthe oscar bait films.

How did the crowd feel about it? And did you overhear any interesting comments about it?

thats what i htink will make the oscars interesting.
half the comments seem to indicate they enjoyed it. the other half had some real and concerning problems and they all mentioned the same thing, though no one hated it ... at the most found it good, okk or just disliked due to the problems.

2 concerns right off the bat were:
a) a 30 minute long dragged ending (not like ROTK which was 30 minute long multiple endings. this one was dragged)
b) Confusion over who was who in the film (which has less to do with lack of introduction to the story and more to do with the editing)

IMO
No, it's not better than SPR.
Slightly boring but kept me fairly interested throughout.
I think it has little chance at winning BP or BD should it be nominated.
