I see the same nominations for Brokeback at the Oscars.. :smile:

So, the most nominated are:

- The Constant Gardener: 10 noms
- Brokeback Mountain: 9 noms
- Crash: with 9 also

I'm surprised they snubbed people like Keira Knightley and Bob Hoskins..

Great for "Gardener" - of course It is a british film so It had a chance for one more nomination, Best british film, which It got.

Also fantastic for "Crash" - just in case there were any doubts, It is going very, very strong right now.

Quite good for Geisha. Does Ziyi have a chance for that nomination now or what?

And nominating George Clooney TWICE for supporting actor is a bit bonkers, isn´t it?

Observations:

1. The Constant Gardener was expected to do well with British Academy, and it did;

2. Good boost for Capote; still looks to me that Walk the Line and Munich are competing for the last spot with Walk the Line being a little ahead;

3. Crash is locked in as the No. 3 nominee;

4. Biggest surprise for me is Keira missing Best Actress; Theron and Zhang continue to show up, now with an even more powerful combo of GG, SAG, and BAFTA; hard to see either miss at this point;

5. Expected lineup for Best Actor; the top 4 are so locked in this category;

6. Didn't do much to clear up the last couple of spots for either supporting category.

Wow, I'm surprised that despite all the P&P noms Knightley didn't make it into Best Actress. Definitely not a good thing for her though for the life of me I can't figure out why she's not showing up. Of all the potential surprise noms on Jan 31 I hope that it's her.

Interesting that Weisz is in lead, another Supporting Actress potentinal nominee that might have category confusion (like Bello). Perhaps this could cause one of them to fall out of Supporting Actress, like Johansson in LiT, though I doubt it.

AHOV was pretty much ignored here, Capote/Crash continue to look very strong.

I need to see North Country when it hits DVD to see if Theron/McDormand really deserve their possible Oscar noms over other contenders. What does anyone whose seen the movie think?

I think Keira's chances are now very slim... :|

But I still don't see both Theron and Ziyi making the cut either.. Joan Allen just boosted her chances, ironically (with Keira's snub)... :biggrin:

Memoirs of a Geisha continues being a powerhouse in the technical department, hehe. Well deserved.

Crash is getting very strong.

Keira Knightley's snub is frankly very surprising, but I feel she will still make it.

I am not worried about Munich, we all read about the screw-up at BAFTA with it (and remember, Million Dollar Baby wasn't nominated for anything either!).

Also surprising the small number of noms Cinderella Man got...

The Brits are crazy! Keira, one of their own, gets big international recognition for her wonderful performance and they snub here, although they loved the movie? For shame!

Shame indeed. SHE WAS the movie. But of course Rachel Weisz is up there so it's fine.

If they snub her at the Oscars, as long as they recognize the movie's technical aspects, it would still be great. But I do feel that either one of Theron and Zhang will not make it.

No Keira bites.

Crash is the #2 contender in my mind now.

Capote is also doing well. I believe it's ahead of Munich and Walk the Line easily as of right now, it'll be between those two for the last spot.

Yes! Gooo The Constant Gardener!! Come on you underdog you, sneak in with the Oscars. :biggrin:

Yeah, I know, it's probably not going to happen, but I wish.

Still awesome showing here, even if it was expected. :biggrin:

PEACE, Mike.

Kiera Knightley not on this list is a very bad sign, I think. She's going to miss out on an Oscar nomination.

The fact that this was nominated invalidates this entire list.

Ms. Knightley not getting the BAFTA nod is indeed a bad sign.

You expect the Brits to be smarter than their American counterparts, but then they go and nominate Crash. Bah.

Bravo for The Constant Gardener! :towel:

I guess I'm not totally stunned to see George Clooney recognized for both of his supporting turns, but what's the deal with snubbing Giamatti? (who just isn't going to win anything, folks)

Double noms for Crash and George Clooney? That's going a long way to say Giamatti doesn't deserve anything as far as they're concerned.

I'm very disappointed about Kiera Knightly not getting anything for this.

Agreed that it is amazing that they didn't talk care of one of their own in giving KK a nomination in a very deserving role that no one would have complained about.
